I understand that there were software issues in the 2004 coupes that affected clutch wear. Is this true and can the software be updated to improve the clutch wear?

I have a 2004 coupe and chose to keep the original software. They re-flashed it to the upgrade during a routine service and it changed the way the car felt on acceleration. Really mellowed it out and felt closer to an auto transmission.

The upgrade will soften the shifts and will soften the accelarator when going in reverse. At least this is what I noticed for the 1 day I had the upgraded version. This may be what you prefer though.

As I recall, a few owners mentioned that their 2nd clutch with the upgraded version only lasted about 8k miles.

Also, my first clutch lasted about 18,000 and I am the first to admit that I am shift happy.
I have about 30+k miles and no sign of clutch issues. I expect another 18-20 k clutch life.

There was also an engine software upgrade for the 2004 models. I had to have that upgrade, but would have preferred not to. I liked the way the car ran before that upgrade as well but they didnt want to take reflash it back because of a vibration issue on the clutch change. long story.

Agreed. The more aggressive clutch in the earlier CC's is prefered. The 2005/2006 cars are much more user friendly and inturn more condusive to clutch wear. The smoother the transmission, the more clutch slippage and the more clutch wear.

The shift speeds and take offs from my 2004 are faster then some later model 360's that went through a similar clutch upgrade in 2001.

Bottom line is if you are happy with having a more aggressive clutch then be happy with having a clutch with longer life potential.
