    Scandals

The News of the World newspaper has long specialised in sexual scandals. On Sunday it invaded the world of motor racing, with allegations involving FIA President Max Mosley. We would not normally cover such stories, but this one may have a significant effect on the FIA, and the world of motorsport and we feel that it should be noted.

    So noted.

So, www.grandprix.com certainly is not going to get lathered up about this little trifle........

I just saw Olav Mol on the dutch news. He is the F1 commentator for the Netherlands.
And he was acting like it was no big deal. Maybe affraid to lose his pit access pass??

I imagine you are referring to the Profuma affair, which wasn't quite as you describe it. Profuma was a government minister who had an affair with an English woman who also had a Russian spy as a lover and there was concern that Profuma might have said things to her that might have got back to the Russians. Ultimately he lost his job, not because of the affair but because he lied to parliament about it.

OK, you are right I think on the details (didn't it happen in the 50s?) - but I am almost sure I did read the quip about "couldn't keep his own affairs secret".

My real point was that stay or go, Maxwell-Not-so-Smart HAS to have lost all credibility: and that I could care less whether he has the "obsessione Alemaine" or whether his Mommy was a Commy (or even a Neo-Nazi for that matter).

The reason I cannot stand him is because of what he has been doing to blunt real technical progress in Formula One.

Before we all make merry too much over it though, let me say that I hope it does not get used to trash out Formula One in general - this sometimes happens with these quasi-political scandals that explode in the press.

It's profumo and thre was a very good movie about it, the woman was well worth the trouble gorgeous actress! I once visited Clivden manor near Windsor where some of the events took place and there are some paintings of the people involved there.

Speaking of which who will make the movie: and what should we call it: bonfire of max's ego?!: I see Jeremy Irons as ideal: he already played Klaus von Bulow:)

There is no way ANYONE can say this is not a big deal without lying through their teeth. Anyone who supports Mosley now (in fear, for that's the only way anyone will support him...unless it's Bernie) will look the fool after he is sacked.

    Ron:

Would you have the same opinion if he was your child's schoolteacher?

Mosley made his own bed, let him lie in it. When you make as many enemies as he did, you can't feel sorry for the guy now if folks want to bring him down. Screw him, as far as I'm concerned...oops, poor choice of words

That is exactly what i was going to say. Now that would be funny! Probably funnier in theory rather than in practice though.

Perhaps both the 'Owned' and 'Self Owned' cards for this one?

It just hit MSNEWS, on the Motor Sports forum: Bernie is quoted as defending Max:

Formula One Management and Formula One Administration president and CEO Bernie Ecclestone said, “Assuming it’s all true, what people do privately is up to them. I don’t honestly believe [it] affects the sport in any way.”

    Brilliant. Just Brilliant.

Scott, I was thinking the samething. The British F1 sites are being very conservative with this story right now.

It might be something to do with the fact they have the right's to broadcast F1 in the coming year's..

And don't want to set off on the wrong footing, upsetting Bernie and Max..

    Just a thought ...

You would think they had better have sent him for a little sensitivity training last year after the papergate...

Gentlemen, I have just had the most horrible thought of the day - what if...

Max is out, Bernie wants to maintain CEO, and Dennis really does retire at MCL?

OH NO - NO - NO, please don't let it be Ron Dennis

itv site's down, timesonline has this

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article3654740.ece

"Sources close to Mr Mosley told The Times that he had no intention of resigning over the incident. His lawyers were said to be taking legal action against the News of the World for breach of privacy.

Possibly as a result of the interest whipped up by the story, Mr Mosley appears set, however, to cancel a trip to this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix. It would have been his first appearance in the Formula One paddock so far this season. "

I don't see RD ,JT, or Jackie getting the post.
As far as I know the post is appointed by Bernie and not the Drivers Association- I could be wrong
Bernie liked Max because he was his whipping boy- no pun intended- I don't think Bern would want someone
in there that was a constant source of conflict

The man's thirst for power is such that he no longer has a sense of shame...assuming he had one to begin with.

He is truly a repulsive individual.
