(from autosport) Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says Brazilian driver Felipe Massa in not under pressure despite his poor start to the 2008 season. Massa has retired from both the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix - from second in the second race - and speculation has already suggested the Brazilian's seat could be in danger despite having two years of his contract left. But di Montezemolo has moved to quash all rumours, saying Ferrari have the best driver line-up in the world. "Felipe Massa is absolutely not under any scrutiny," di Montezemolo told Gazzetta dello Sport. "In fact, we at Ferrari have the best driver pairing in the world. "I expect a great race from Felipe in Bahrain, after his wonderful qualifying session in Malaysia." Di Montezemolo said he expected Ferrari to bounce back in Malaysia following their dismal weekend in Australia, where both cars retired. "I expected that, and I'm convinced we have an exceptional team and a competitive car," he added. "This is not a competition between singles and married people: it will be a big challenge because the greatest car manufacturers in the world are in it. "I'm very confident, also because I know there is a nice development program for the car."
Even though Massa is not doing a good job it's great to hear he won't leave Ferrari. This should keep the "haters" with their mouth shut about him leaving Ferrari.
no it won't! besides, it didnt keep your Massa lover mouth shut did it? please, what Ferrari says is simply PR standard procedure. internally, they are thinking something else...
C'mon, you think if Vettel or Rosberg all of a sudden became available Ferrari wouldn't pick either of them up instantly? Massa is just there for as long as it takes Ferrari to find someone else, but at this point who?
I have as many points this season as Felipe does, so I really don't care who Ferrari gets just as long as he gets points. Cough cough Michael cough couch Schumi cough
I love the tone of the release by Luca. I interpret it as: "Massa is under no pressure to perform as long as he does well." Haha. And if the team isn't pressuring him, the damn media sure is!
So Massa has an easy job, qualify well and everything else is ok! He must be under immense pressure. At least he is going to track that has been kind to him in the past with TC.
