Never laughed so hard, thought for a second it was written by my Grandpa...:

    "Well said, Doctor

Last nt, a colleague drove me to a dinner in his 599.....a <2mi journey through hilly SF streets...

    Been a while since I've been in a 599....esp after a wkend spent driving CL65 and CL63 030, what a POS....feels like a tin box w/herky-jerky movements w/F1 gearbox, even in moderate, <35MPH urban driving....and all kinds of tacky, cheap-looking Fiat buttons/switches....all V12s clearly aren't created equal....

We arrived at restaurant...and parked in front is a CL63 030 of one of our colleagues...a jaded car nut who also owns a 599 that he rarely drives...and is also on list at our dealer for new '09 AMG V12 CL....a mere 8 cyl motor is just too eco-friendly and underpowered for this SF crowd...

Interestingly, my 599-driving colleague (who provided me a "taxi ride" to dinner; 599 is about as unsafe as a CrownVic, isn't it???) gets a latest/greatest, new AMG and Ferrari every 6 mths and rarely drives his 599....he drives his CL63 030 90%+ of time....and is one spot ahead of me on list at our dealer to get new, '09 AMG V12 CL.....seems like jaded guys generally appreciate refined deliv of hp/tq and know AMG V12s (esp in high-tech, super-safe CL platform) are more addictive than anyone else's V12s.... Well that is totally funny ... normally people who likes Merc will not like Ferrari for sure. I have a 911 turbo, M5, F430 and one of my friend asked me to drive his 599. after a 20 minutes ride the next thing i did was writing a check for downpayment for a red 599 that will arrive in 3 months

the 599 was totally different experience to what I have and worth the money I am paying... Merc never excited me and do not think they will ever take my Money.

Is the 599 F1 jerky like the older 355 F1 gearboxes?

My Audi DSG sometimes get caught off guard in "automatic" mode and executes a clunky shift.

Re the original post, I just can't get excited about anything MB makes anymore -- even the uber-horsepower cars don't evoke much excitement, IMO. Yeah, power headrests are neat, but kind of pathetic in a way. The new C-Class is "nice" for what it is, but I don't really stay awake dreaming about it. Ditto the SL, which is looking old. And the list goes on.

Thats pretty funny, i must say. Fiat switches?....maybe he got a ride in a 348, i cant remember seing any Fiat switches on the 599 or any modern Ferrari.

Hes definately someone who dislikes italian cars, its obvious. MB cars and AMGs are nice, but no Ferrari

    I feel the same way.

How many folks have come on here and asked 'should I get a new Corvette, or a Ferrari ?'

'Well, Corvettes are a dime a dozen, and won't turn heads - or ears - like a Ferrari - why are you asking HERE of all places ?'

Quite a crew over there on MBWorld, particularly in the "BS Series" forum, which is a sub forum of the CLK section.

While the Black Series is an utterly fantastic car, some owners in the MBWorld forum are insecure, prone to exageration and easily rankled by the slightest criticism of their beloved MB. If you don't agree with them, some resort to name calling and insults at the drop of a hat.

They seem defensive about their purchase, maybe because the BS is dropping like a rock in value. If you can pick one up at a good price, it's a great value, by the way.

    +1.
CLK63 BS is a terriffic ride indeed.
Thought about getting one for a very entertaining daily driver but lack of back seat (need it occasionally for kids) killed that idea.

I don't exactly see what his point is, especially since he hasn't driven the car.

Edit: BTW check out the Evosport Black Series thread over there

My bet: lack of adequate financial ressources to buy and own Ferrari :) I cannot think of any other reason as the post is so ridiculous for anybody who knows the cars mentioned...

Very funny. Interesting to note that the new C 63 AMG will get the same V8 found in other "63" variants across the board for MB, and nearly 2/3 or in some cases 1/3 the price!!

I havent driven a black serie yet but they are overpriced . If i want a track car , a GT3 does a better job for less and looks better. The rest of the MB range is nothing to write home about at least for any car enthusiast.

The quality has improved though from the last gen of CL which was just insulting .

On a quiet day, you can hear them depreciate. Local dealer called me about an SLR roadster...I've never bought a car from them. Evidently not a big queue. I reminded the dealer about coupe resale when I told him I'm out :)

ok lets face it, and stick to the facts, the clk 63 amg black series is 18 sec. slower on the nürburgring as the 599, the slr is 5 sec. slower and the SL 65 is 27 sec slower (by sportauto)

Ok... I can't stand this post!!!! LOL

First of all, take a look at the way the person writes. That would be your first clue as to the mentality of this person. Not that I am a grammar king or spelling king but does it really sound like someone who was driving Cl65's and Cl63s all weekend? Not unless he is a valet at a local night club. LOL

Also, do you think this tool bag has ever even been in a fiat? Seriously, how many Fiats have you been in if you have never left the country?

this guy is a total douch bag!!! How many times is he going to abbreviate simle words!

Not all V-12s were created equally... thats why they had to slap a set of turbos on the Merc...

Very amusing post. My opinion is the 599 is the finest car I have ever driven. It feels light to the tough when driving and some might mistake this for insubstantial and therefore unsafe. I have no safety data on the vehicle but I believe the vehicle to be safe. I am sure Ferrari wants its customers to live to be repeat customers. I also feel the engineering in the modern Ferraris is the best you will get in a modern car. If you look at the quality of the switch gear, MB is not much to brag about. The 599's switch gear could be a bit nicer I suppose but so what. Anyone can be a critic, I think the critics of the 599 do not get enough time with the car and are expecting it to be like a 430 but even more intense. Its not that way at all. Its a car that can be docile and as useable as a MB or BMW- really. Or it can make you think you are driving an Enzo- well maybe thats a bit too far- but its probably closer to the truth than it is not. And the F1 is so good- it is not at all jerky. In many months and over 2,500 miles so far it has made a jerky shift once. Thats it. In auto mode it could really be an automatic- its not and you know it but its very very very good. And in manual mode it is insane. I usually come away from driving automated systems thinking I could shift faster. I come away from driving the 599's superfast F1 system saying to myself "wholly *&^%$#% !!! I could never shift that fast!!" This is a very well sorted and thought out vehicle with world class engineering and is a true delight to drive. Bottom line- this person has no idea what they are saying- they are entitled to their opinion but I think they are off the mark. If you don't want to take my word for it- how about Pulitzer Prize winning automobile journalist Dan Neil? His words now: " the world's best-ever front-engine sports car" I agree.

    Very well said Jerry.

For what it is worth: I stopped reading that crap the moment I came to the section where he writes about the F1 gearbox. That in itself is an insult to the best system there is in my opinion (well, exept for the Scuderia gearbox that is). I'm a great fan of the SMG on my M6 but compared to that, the F1 super fast on the 599 comes from another planet and combines the best of both worlds. (Can't wait for my car to be delivered so that I get to enjoy it every day. Never has waiting been that hard).

drive the clk first , then talk , and gt3 looks nowhere near as hot and mean as clk63 in person , and porsche just lacks torque and excitement clk has , and the automatic transmission is VERY VERY good , like there ain't no auto ferraris , it has also an f1 transmission , wich is very fast and highrev. the 599 is probably the hottest car to buy now but , the clk is a funky car you want to rip apart , i don't know if you want to do same with your 599

Nowhere near as hot and mean ? Its a bloody CLK with flared arches ...It might be a nice drive but it cant hold a candle to a GT3 in terms of looks .

But at least MB is going the right direction .

That guy is clearly full of unresolved issues.
You cannot compare a Benz V12 with a Ferrari V12. They are so different as to be without a single point of comparison.
I say this from the POV of owning an S65, an SL600 and a 599.

The 599 is my daily driver and has close to 7,000 miles a year into ownership. It does everything right from urban low speed stop start driving to exhilarating blasts on freeway on ramps to carving turns on canyon roads. It has a real trunk and a well sized cabin. It's gorgeous to look at and will blow away just about every other standard production road car.

The S65 is a beast and I love driving it, but tend to use it for school carpooling, and when I need to have more than one passenger. No way does it rank in front of the 599 in anything other than passenger capacity.
The SL600 is a thrill ride as well but it is a bit soft for me and my wife loves it so it's hers

I'd love the opportunity to meet that MB poster in person. I'm sure I'd find a meek ****** who would never repeat what he wrote directly to a 599 owner.
