I think we have too many people who don't fully understand the wonder that is the real vette!

Figured the Vette owners would be too snobby to allow true Italian sports car enthusiasts onto their stuck up board.

I actually did my doctoral thesis on leaf spring geometry, so tell me I'm not qualified to talk about Vettes.

Very well, Bullfighter-leaf-hopper, but are you FOR it or AGAINST it?

Us elitists (ZR-1) are more interested in the merits of pushrods versus overhead cams...but I guess that is as much a lost cause nowadays as Lotus itself actually making their own engines.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if it tuned out that this new forum is the real thing and that Max Mosley is the April Fools Joke?

After the forever classic "coke-bottle" design went bye-bye, is there even such a thing these days as a "Vette?"

I thought Vettes became extinct, early to mid 1990's....... :)

Hate to let you in on a little secret, but those "coke-bottles" were really pretty awful cars to actually drive. And the sad thing was that they just kept getting worse the longer they made them, especially during the early emissions control days.

The C2/C3s did have a great 4-speed manual shifter that has never been equalled to this day, though.

I have to say though, I love the ZF 6spd. It is the least "American" feeling manual trany I have ever seen....probably since its European in design!

I think we should let Harley Davidson owners have a sub fourm too. Rolex riders could get in arguments with the old Hells Angels crowd about wearing swastikas on their helmuts.

    James,

You maybe very right, but I'll tell you. Other than my 308 and the 67 and 68 Shelby GT350's, the only car ever to make me rock and roll was the Coke-bottle Vettes.

The one that stands out in my mind I almost bought, 1982, Black with Silver interior. It was 1984 and I was a poor 2LT iin the US Army and $12K was too much for me then. I kinda cried when I crunched the #'s and just could not justify the cost.

One of the most beautiful cars I ever saw.............

Still want one. Any suggestions on what to look out for (good and bad).

    Mark

I think it should be current owners only with all due respect. VIN # must be sent via e-mail along with a copy of title.

Opinions of those who gave up on the great American sports car should not be heard IMO.

I don't just OWN a vet, I am a vet! And frankly, I find any sarcastic humor concerning vets to be beyond the pale! After all vets have done for you, how can you make us a source of merriment? I mean really, you'd think you people were talking about something no more important than what kind of car you drive!

    Oh, vette....

    Never mind

Get one with the chrome bumpers. They all ride terribly (body shake, wheel hop, etc.) and have loose steering. The brakes, even though disk, are not very good. My two examples, both new, were 1974 and 1977. The party was pretty much over in 1974 with that mismatched urethane bumper front and rear, and by 1977 (single cat converter exhaust) the dance band really had packed it up and gone home.

Someday I may post the story of trying to drive an ex-GF home from cosmetic torso surgery in one of those original 1984 Z-51 suspension 1G option cars...now that is one more recruit for the leaf spring hate crowd.
