Anyone have a value they would pay for a BBi radio? The hammer is starting to rise Hold on to something , this should be a interesting ride. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I believe the radio itself is quite common and used in a lot of European cars of the era and not worth much...it is the plastic mounting plate with the Ferrari logo that is hard to find...
You only need one for Originality. Otherwise, it's horrible by 1988 standards......figure where it stands vs. the $29.95 special at Target in 2008. When I get around to redoing the dash, well................you know.
Are you selling one? I don't see anything on eBay. I would guess that a nice one would go for $1,500 or more.
Thanks for your input everyone. I believe any version of this radio is extremely hard to find . I agree with the issue of cheap - dime a dozen but most if not all were thrown away!!! My friends in Germany and England tell me back in the eighties they were plentyfull but all disapeared. Many Porsche collectors are looking for this exact radio as well - not sure for what Porsche model. Also Ferrari used this radio - Dealer installed ( would like more information on Dealer installed - Factory recommended?? ) on 412i and 308 Quatrovolve?? with Ferrari logo. Any added information would be appreciated .
I've picked up a couple sets of these still in the boxes. These were sold in the states so easier to find.
Equalizers are availble new for around $500. I can't remember the name of the shop, they are in England.
What I thought was simple mechanical trouble turns out to be electronics as well. According to Radioman, I need a new IC for the radio and the part is tough to come by. Anyone got a BBi radio they want to sell? Sigh......
You can have modern internals put in your original radio, not all is lost Buzz. My needle doesnt move on my radio and I dont really care, its all there though and one day I MIGHT get it fixed. My friend needs a radio though and he doesnt care if it works either as long as its correct.
FYI, the Pioneer in the BB512i has no needle...it is a series of red lights that illuminate as your turn the tuner knob making it appear to be a needle moving up and down the scale...
you're a knob......I see a little "needle" like appendage pointing at the face of the tuner. I dont care if its zircon encrusted moon rocks. It doesnt move regardless of its molecular make-up.
If my radio is in fact toast then I am not above doing special surgery to replace the internals whilst retaining the stock look and feel -- including the column of little red lights that is the station indicator. Who can you recommend?
It does look like a needle...but it's not...the way I know is I took mine apart before sending it off for repairs...I used this company...http://www.classicradio.com/
Confrimed. I just spent 20 mins on the phone with Dan at classicradio.com and there is no needle. The tuner face is a two dimensional array of teeny lights about 3 or 4 lights high by N wide. When you turn the tuner knob, it instructs the chip to illuminate the next (or previous) set of lights. That being said, I still need either a new radio or a new chip, part #PD 1002.
I found a distributor in Ireland who claims they have assurance from a supplier on the continent that they can get the part. About US$150 plus shipping. partstore.com "has it" for $68 but they are an integration site and cannot actually tell if a part is in stock unless they do an inquiry, which takes 2-3 days. I have asked for such an inquiry. I am leaning toward toward going with the Irish source.
