    They're going to start taxing me for every **** I take. For how many hours I sleep, how many dreams I have.

    Excess taxes are just another reason we are headed the way of the Roman Empire.

    Money, Power, Greed.....

    This brings up several points:

    1) Taxing something that may or may not even be a concern, a direct result of the human race, let alone even within our abilities to correct seems a bit ridiculous in the first place.

    2) How much of the "global warming" taxes would actually go towards the purpose, as opposed to just paying down debt or magically finding its way to other programs and special interests (although, one could argue that the "global warming" camp is a special interest in its own right)? Perhaps this is a hand-wavy operation to refill the CA Pension fund that collapsed with the subprime/housing bust?

    3) How much of the "global warming" taxes will end up in the pockets of private companies who have invented ways to "save the world"? And how many of the private companies are lobbying for this tax? I mean there's something fundamentally incorrect about a situation such as Al Gore or any other greenie pumping up "global warming," setting up a company to solve it, and then lobbying for taxes that would eventually find their way into his pockets. Where's the SEC when we need them?

    4) Aren't they aware how higher energy prices are already negatively affecting our economy? To suddenly strap extra tax on energy in such a prolific business and economic growth area seems counter-intuitive to me.

    Argh... I don't live in California, but unfortunately so many state governments follow their lead (I can't buy a ML320 diesel in PA because of our CARB-style emissions standards) that I can't help but be concerned. I'm trying to remain hopeful and have a positive outlook for the future of the USA, but every week more crap like this comes up that worries me a lot.

    Just another angle to fleece people. Nobody is buying it though. Questions is is anyone really doing anything about it other than cutting back because they're squeezed and have to?

    The supporter's quotes are ****ing moronic. To wit;

    "It's good but I agree that the tax could be a bit higher. It would also be good if people who had to drive a bigger car had to pay more per gallon. That would be hard to keep track of though..." - Apr 2, 2008 12:31:22 PM

    Actually, "Nothing riles Southern Californians like a new tax on their God-given right to drive", isn't a 'God-given right'; it's a privilege! :D
