I always uses aliases or at least never give a last name or initial publicly since there may be someone who sees I live in Anytown, NY and have a Ferrari that he wants to steal. Or assume that since I have an F I'm loaded and have lots of valuables at my house that he can steal. There's a lot of personal information on the web these days and the less of yours is there the better off you are. Whether it's ID theft, a vindictive acquaintance (like the poor shmuck who's house was looted after someone getting back at him posted his address on CL "I'm getting evicted come help yourself" and the guy was HOME and he couldn't stop those who came). People w.nefarious intentions can be incredibly resourceful in gathering information from various resources to execute bad things.

 

I had my personal name on my log in for a long time....

But the Internet is a scary place, and some pretty mean spirited cats come and go.......so after a dust up I realized that might not be so smart.....it's easy to link who I am, if you read the newspapers or Cavallino, but there's a need for privacy.

And I have a zero net worth! Someone with more to lose needs it even more....

Besides anyone tracing me wouldn't find me but would instead "hit' on the home of my ex-wife where my children live...... we have had one case here where a memeber's wife was followed and harassed.

Most of us who have been here a long time know who we are talking to....

I'm glad some still do use their real names and I'm always glad to respond via PM with accurate information........well, more or less, I have been tossed out of my ex-fiancee's address, but my Driver's License and new bank checks still show it...

Hope springs eternal maybe someday it'll MATCH again.....

I spent the last 10 years working in Aerospace for the DoD (and other, more "subtle" entities), so anonymity and misinformation are just from old habit with me...

Actually, my F-chat moniker is my nickname, and my real name is in fact as noted in my profile, David Prall.

 

I tried using a moniker but could never keep that one lens in my eye. Switched back to glasses.

 

I have always wonder why people block out license plate numbers. You can't get any info about who owns the car from a DMV(had a friend who worked at one years ago). That info seems to be closely guarded secret.
