Jay, you need heat in that garage! Best investment I made! Based on your experience. How difficult to remove the injectors with the engine in the car? Doesn't appear to be much room to work!
Goth - I need to stop somewhere, I'm not touching those TB's! The sway bar is OEM, I just had it stripped and powder coated to trick you guys into thinking it was new John - I'd say removing injectors wouldn't be alot of fun with the engine in. Plenums need to come off, so you need to remove all that central 'stuff' to get to the throttle body clamps. Personally I would always just wait for the engine out service and do it then.
So when are the belts coming off? Don't forget to find TDC first. You may even want to mark the old belts, cam & crank pullies before you remove them.
Fuel injectors installed finally, here's a pic of them looking shiny and new Image Unavailable, Please Login
Engine mounts installed! New ones look slightly different, but still fit just fine. My old mounts were in fairly bad shape due to the header heat drying the rubber out. I couldn't find any instructions posted so here's the basic procedure: 1. Remove nut and bolt extending through the center of the mount (24 mm; long bolt drops out the bottom) 2. Remove three nuts holding engine brace onto engine 3. Jack up engine carefully to lift it slightly off of the subframe 4. Slide engine brace off studs 5. Remove 4 bolts holding motor mount in place Installing the new mount was a bit tougher due to the slightly different design, couldn't quite lift the engine up far enough without it pulling the subframe with it. Nothing a little muscle couldn't fix. Next step to make sure this is my last engine mount install is to make some small heat shields to deflect that upcoming Fabspeed heat Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cool pics mate. That old engine mount was broken eh? Injectors were just cleaned?? Did they say what the spray pattern was like before they cleaned them?? They do LOOK like new now.
Did you check the cam timing of the engine while it was out? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jay...where did you get the 2 post lift? Can you tell me the mfg and model#? I am needing one and want the CHEAPEST one that will work...I am limited to a ceiling height of 10'8". Saw some on eBay for approx $1400 and am curoius if anyone has purchased and used this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120231868875&rd=1
Mount wasn't broken, just was dried and cracking. Injectors cleaned and calibrated, before 3 had bad patterns (some dripping), after all rated excellent fcm: that's not my lift, I did the 2 jack technique. ultgar: Great pics! Didn't check mine yet, hopefully will get to that in the next week or two...
Ah, ok. This one looks like it has 'sagged' and is cracked where I circled it. Good to hear about those injectors. Your 355 will run even better now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pap - yes mine are sagged and cracked; not a total failure yet, the inner metal cone was still being supported all the way around by rubber...but no doubt a good time to replace them. Ernie - I ordered mine naked and will have them coated locally. But in my opinion the thin 'ceramic' coating is more for cosmetic, it won't be nearly as effective as the stock fiberglass / heat shield combo.
Here's the motor mount heat shield, hopefully I'll never replace motor mounts again with these in place. I used 0.027" titanium sheet, and on the bottom side I stuck on some ultra high temp ceramic fabric furnace lining, rated to 2300F continuous duty! (stuck on with high temp silicone). Just a bit overkill, but had this stuff laying around. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jay hope it works out well, I am humbled by your courage. Shocked to see a timing belt and no chain with guides anyhow, time for Tubi or what ever sounds awsome
Valve covers done; wanted to powder coat for durability but my contact said he couldn't match the color exact - the only wrinkle red he knew of is a brighter shade. So thanks to DrFerrari I picked up some VHT wrinkle red paint, and it is a perfect match as far as my eyes can tell! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Holy smokes--Those look new--Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you tape off the lines and Ferrari or paint over then sand off??
Thanks; Mine were in excellent shape, just a bit dirty. Degreased + scrubbed with soap for prep, only had a few small bare spots. This takes 3 coats, after each I partially wiped off the plug covers then when fully cured sanded off the rest with 600 grit paper. 800 or higher would be nice for a final polish, I may still do that.
Guys like you make me want to buy a Ferrari. I wish I could see your face the day you start it up. Paul
