My 430S probably arrive a bit later - July/August. Sold my E55 a long time ago. Keep the GTR - big fun!
You would think that true car enthusiast would be excited about any car that comes out with performance numbers like the GT-R. Maybe it's not your cup of tea but why bash a car you've never even driven? Bashing the GT-R doesn't make a Ferrari or any other car any better. Every write up that I've seen on the car by someone who has actually driven one includes nothing by rave reviews. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.
Sarcasm much? It's all good, except I can say the same but for real, I take pride in what I drive and these high end car's in general. But don't let badges get in the way of my level head!
i like the gtr but just do not understand how a car close to 4000lbs with less than 500 hp can beat a car that weight close to 3000 lbs and has over 500 hp (vs z06). awd does not explain it or audis would post the faster track times than weight and hp would suggest but they never do (vs m3). i will remain skeptical of the tested gtr's being 'ringers' until proven otherwise. i remember r&t acting the same way when the tt supra came out last decade. it was a nice fast car but not near what their 'test' showed it to be. btw the comparisons for the scud are the gt2, lp560, etc not the gtr.
^^ I would say AWD has everything to do with it, that and maybe more advanced launch/traction computer aid... that is, for the [very] strong 0-60 times.
Good reasons to have doubts. Reading the lastest issue of Road and Track with test data for the GTR provides much needed confirmation this car is indeed outperforming considerablly lighter cars.
Three reasons: 1) AWD. 2) Short gearing. 3) Dual-clutch sequential manual transmission. Also explains why the car falters at higher speeds.
Much like the Z06 the GTR is an absolute beast. It will likely walk most offereings from Ferrari and do so for 1/2 the doe or less! My buddy had a worked 996TT that will bring an Enzo to its knee's. Guess what....you can have the 996TT, the GTR and the Z06 cause none of them draw me to the garage just to look like my (plenty fast for me) 360. Now If I had unlimited resources I would maybe have a couple of "go fast" cars in the stable too. So I am left to make a choice do I want an Altima on steroids or a car that makes my blood boil and my heart pound. Ferrari all the way kids.
Nissan has hit the mark with a car that is a beast! technology, power and handeling beyond anyone's limits! problem is... it's an ugly car! although I have not seen it in person, I cannot find an angle that does not look like an after thought, add on. It looks like a child was drawing and just kept saying oh.. I'll put a spoiler on it and oh! this would be soo cool with a vent here! and.... you get my drift. they should have had an Italian firm design the body then they would have really had a winner!!!!
October 2008 delivery ? What will they really be trading at? Something over MSRP, but how much? what will it be worth a year later?
As the Z06 You can´t compare the GTR to any modern Ferrari. It´s cheap, it´s ugly and it´s heavy. A ferrari is expensive, beautiful and light. Thay also produce the fastest cars for track ever made. For sure it´s the best buy for people that care about performance / dollar, most Ferrari owners does not. I think it´s like comparing a SEIKO watch to a Rolex. Seiko will be more accurate, show the right date in months with less then 31 days. BUT it´s cheap and ugly. Performane / dollar is better. Still I would NEVER buy that watch to replace the Rolex. Sure I could still consider buying one, just for fun. Same with the GTR. But they play in different leagues.
awd, dual clutch trans, etc still do not explain how gtr beats a zo6. think of a cayman which is about 3000 lbs and 300 hp with rwd and regular clutch. audi tt is about 3500 lbs and 250 hp but with awd and dual clutch manumatic. the cayman will still destroy the audi which is what should happen with the zo6/gtr but doesnt. the tested gtr's (and maybe all gtr's) must have closer to 600 hp for these tests to make any sense. even still, why dont gtr test drivers complain about the negative effects the heavy weight has on subjective feel? drivers prefer the porsche gt3 over the turbo b/c the awd adds weight and decreases 'feel' yet no one complains about the even heavier gtr. i used to want to drive a mcclaren f1 more than anyother car but now i am more curious to drive a gtr to see what all of this is about. crazy!
Hey Guys, This is a fun thread....cool that a minority of the posters fall victim to the whole 'Its a Ferrari so it can do no harm' mentality. Was thinking as I was watching the qualifying for this weekends F1 race..... Isn't Nissan owned by the same company that owns...Renault. Pretty sure Renault knows and thing or two about F1. I pass this along because it is relevant if we are to somehow try to convince ourselves that Ferrari road cars have the upper hand vs the GT-R....due to F1. As far as how the GT-R looks. Thats 100% subjective. We were with our Ferrari friends recently and there was a heated argument over the appearance of the 430 vs 360. Personally, I think the GT-R looks great. Design for the purpose of performance. The optional silver looks great. The whole weight conversation is always funny. Face it, all modern cars are pigs. But, they have to be...all the widgets and wadgets that we all demand add up in terms of weight. Doesn't the fact that the GT-R is heavy and its still a monster make it that much more impressive? If the rumors about the 'V Spec' (or whatever its called) are true...and they make it every faster, even better..... all the rules will change...again. For my dollar, a BRAND...no matter how sexy and alluring.....is no longer enough.
You have to break it all down. In the very end (which may be around a tree) you bought a Nissan. I remember when the Dodge Charger SRT8 came out. I was working for a Chrysler dealership and we all loved it. Now, its just another car with a huge engine. Nissan simply flippd the Skyline pancake on this one and not suprisingly, a very nice car was on the otherside. Still, just a Skyline. These cars in five years (if not already) will turn up in the hands of rich kids all across the world who will twin this and cold air that and eventually make yet another "Skyline From Hell" (YouTube it.) Ferrari are on the flipside. A sports car that will sustain value, developed in a wind tunnel and not on a Playstation 3... A car that is legend rather than fad. Anybody can take a rocket and put in in a wheelbarrel, but those who can keep it on the gorund and do it for 60 years - they are the winners. _J(post998) (excuse the spelling)
A masterpiece, and not because I own one. I think the Scud technologically is the same way, both have such advancements over its predecessors.
Yep, thats similar to our experiences with these mostly ego based cars. I have to admit...spending this kind of cash on cars is more or less stupid...(for me) The funny thing is that the more net worth we have the less I need to have cars like this. Its a hard bitter pill to take....the fact that most of use are 'brand tools'. We buy Ferraris for how they make us feel....and/ or how we perceive others will see us. Ego. We buy into the brand because we think that we will somehow get the keys to an elite club. This thread has allowed me to re-think through my personal motivations for wanting the cars I have had. Also, the GT-R really does bring to light the fact that these exotics have to get their games on. It only make sense that a Ferrari that costs 3-4 times as much should perform 3-4 times better. And, no Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari does. On another note....Nissan IS IN F1. Renault and Nissan are the same company.
has top gear driven the gtr yet? what is its time with the stig? that might help clarify what the real performance is.
