Dealer or private? All books, keys, records, etc.? Everything perfect? Location? You don't offer too much info. I would consider starting in the 80's. You can always go up. Good luck!

Just watching the sales lately and and reading this board, I would agree starting in the LOW $80's would not be out of line...especially if it is missing any of the above...

I went your way five years ago. We started at $145K. I pulled the trigger at $115k. The car is now worth, on a good day, $90K.

    Regrets? None.

    Do it.

this is what i was looking at:

    http://www.cauleyferrari.com/catalog/vehicle_product_info.php?products_id=72&osCsid=6aae9b61a1b65520b1ab14a764277f09

i haven't been tracking the earlier 97 and 98 cars closely. based on what i see in the 1999 and up (with options) low $90's is full boat retail on this 98.

i already have a deposit on a nicely optioned later car (pending PPI) at almost $10k less than what cauley has it listed for. i was considering making this a backup but i wasn't sure if i was missing something. maybe it is just the low mileage. i would think the interior would be a minus but i don't mind the color.

I negotiated with FOH for six months. Here's the time line on my car:

First owner - $205k drove the car 8,000 miles. All work under warranty.

Second owner - $200k drove the car 800 miles. Spent about $2k getting the car ready to sell.

Third owner (me) - $115k have driven the car for over 20,000 miles. Repair bills have run $1 a mile.

    Dale

PS My guess is that repair bills will drop below $1 a mile from here on out because I have had the luxury of fixing all the gremlins that haunt 550s. Unless, of course, there are some future unknown gremlins just waiting for me.

Trust me on this, once you are behind the wheel, you'll never see the interior.

    Henry,

I know the blue interior can scare people off but it looks great in person. It isn't over the top since you still have the mostly black dash. Good luck with whatever you decide.

With the experience of selling a silver car with a blue interior behind me, I will tell you that the blue interior is a major put-off to many potential buyers. I also find the look stunning on that car, but not everyone will. That's one reason I am sticking with red/tan. You see, as these cars continue to depreciate, they will fall even further down the food chain. The next group of buyers will be those looking for the "Ferrari Experience" and for most of them the car will have to be red.

if something happen with the car i already picked out and am getting inspected, maybe i'll throw in a bid. the bright blue interior is a hard sell. who orders a car with only the spare tire option ? i wouldn't even bother.

Except I don't think this car looks good in red or yellow for that matter. Silver or TDF is the best.

I like that exterior/interior combination! I think it looks really nice. Agree it won't be for everyone, but with the mostly black dash it really breaks things up nicely and the blue is a great combination. It will be a hard sell in 5+ years...even harder than now...

My favorite color combination on the 550 is dark blue/tan. I think that silver kind of washes out the lines of the car. I disagree that the car doesn't look good in red, but agree that it doesn't look its best in yellow. I think that yellow needs accent trim (especially black) to make it look good on a car and the 550 has almost none as designed. However, I think that the 550 looks beautiful in any of the factory colors.

Red/Tan is hard to beat on pretty much ANY Ferrari. It is a classic combination!

The one colour I was determined NEVER to buy my 550 in was Giallo. But a year ago, I saw a Giallo one in the flesh, and I found strangely compelling. I still wouldn't buy it but I was pleasantly surprised I must say. I suppose it has a lot to do with the car's lines. If you get to admire one in the flesh, they are very impressive in any colour. I do agree with you that a black interior in a 550 is a bit too boring, and with a yellow 550 it has to be black.

Funny you mention that. After looking at many, there's something freshly "tropical" about a Giallo 550. When I'm older, if I ever find a yellow/black sport seat/ yellow stitching 550 I'll jump on it... so long that I can keep it in Palm Beach!

I was looking to move into a Stradale after selling my 550 - I have recieved multiple solid offers at or above $75K from dealers for my 97 with 28K miles (with or without buying another car from them not all the dealers had a Stradale available).

I agree the blue interior would be considered a positive on this car but I would be shocked if they sold it at $75K (One never knows maybe its on consignment and the owner needs the $$$).

I guess my question is how much is too much to pay for a well optioned 550? Is $125k too high for a $15k mile car with recent belt service, excellent interior with Barchetta seats, Barchetta modular wheels, shields, Tubi, but only fair paint?

Yes. For $125k you should be buying the best.

Sounds like a good deal on a 575.
