Watched an unpleasant movie yesterday called "Hostel".........anyone seen it? I was in Germany a few years ago and was at a shooting range and heard that such things do exist. During the Serbia war I also heard that there were groups arranging for hunting men against a certain fee. Men would be captured and freed in a remote forest, then hunted and shot. If they were lucky.....they were able to escape the hunters.
Agree. It's pretty nasty... I didn't know this kind of thing actually existed though The sequel is already out www.hostel2.com
Do you really think it's that we are on a downslide? Have you considered that maybe our knowledge via increased communication is just bringing some darker things to light?
Second one is more interesting as it shed's more light on exactly what is going on and the global scale in which it is taking place. This sort of "torture porn" is not new, it has been around for a while in Europe, primarily Germany from others I have seen. I am starting to notice more low budget ones showing up in the local blockbuster.
I doubt it's true, but who can tell for sure. Remember the so called 'Snuff' films of a couple of decades ago? I don't believe any of them were ever given factuality.
i've actually got both hostel and hostel part 2. although i'm not a big horror movie fan, these 2 are actually pretty well done, imo, especially if you can get past the blood and guts. keep in mind, some of the movies being made today wouldn't have even been thought of being made 10+ years ago, and it also works the other way as well, anyone think blazing saddles could be made today?
havent seen the first on yet, seen part 2 a while ago though. a few parts made me cringe (Especially the last bit, you know what im talking about. a mans worts nightmare come true). One bit i hated of the whole film though, was when the old guy shot the kid...thats just not right, could have left it out as it isnt pleasant to see. Paradise lost is a similar of sort movie, but just worse. Nothing really happend, just a few moments of operations (getting kidneys, liver etc out, while the person was drugged up but still concious), and it wasnt really that grim. fairly dissapointing!
Was pretty weired movie. Started out like one of those teen-type films then ended up just crazy. Did not like it at all.
Did it really seem real to you? To me most of it looked really, really fake particularly the part with the eye.
I have been pondering this, and I'll have to admit that I am still a bit ambivalent about our overall condition as a society. Yes, these sorts of things seem to have always existed, but I wonder if their seeming increase in pervasiveness stems from a larger populations, and therefore a larger number of people involved but with a similar percentage as before, or if instead there is an actual increase in the percentage of people involved in perversions of decency of this type. Shiny Side Up! Bill
The first Hostel was a good movie - reasonably well executed and with a good sense of irony about the whole thing. (The eye gouging scene was very unrealistic, that's my only gripe). The second movie was nowhere near as good, the concept was old by then. But the castration scene in the sequel was not badly done (definitely more realistic than the eye scene in the first), and I was rooting for the chick since the arsewipe really deserved it. The gore was actually pretty tame compared to some of the other stuff I've seen and enjoyed. The Saw series is a little mild for my tastes. Do check out Miike Takashi's movies (especially Ichi the Killer) or Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects" if you like this sort of thing. I HIGHLY recommend the last movie.
Apparently it's loosely based on a real life events, where in some countries people are so poor they will allow someone to shoot them in the head as long as the shooter pays there family a certain amount of money.
Yeah......I thought that part was a bit exaggerated where he had to cut the eye off and that white stuff started flowing.

I agree. Downslide? I think not, it's just that we know about more of what goes on. Would anyone like to argue that society has gone DOWN from the days of crucifixion, burning at the stake, and far more cases of worldwide persecution of woman and the exploitation of children, the Holocaust, etc, etc.
