When co-workers joke about Ferrari do you speak up? I just did in a research meeting talking about parking. Driving up a small curb to park was the issue. They looked at me like everyone has an SUV. What was I thinking? What do you say?

My question is how do you respond to co-workers in a formal meeting when they do not acknowledge problems a sports car may have w/ parking but make a joke of the issue. How would you tactfully address the issue after an attack?
They always want to talk about "equal space", etc. too.

Do you care enough about their opinions to make a response even necessary? What do YOU get out of a response?

In the end, you're the one driving the Ferrari and they're driving the SUV. If they don't get it, it ain't worth explaining.

I have both (plus a 2006 Mercedes E500) and couldn't care less what anyone thinks. But I'm
self employed, so I guess I care even less

Let it go. Your co-workers obviously perceive sports cars as a luxury. They will be unwilling to give special consideration for someone that chooses to drive a car that requires special parking conditions.

It doesn't matter what they say...everyone in the room is thinking the same thing - I would give my left #$% to be driving that car! But I will make him feel bad so I feel better when I pull away in my Accord! Forget about them and ignore it.

Your dealing with total morons who dont know how to parallel park a small truck without running over the curb trying to park (automatic fail on a road test in my state), and your wondering why they look at you funny when you can? They have to make fun of your car (or you) at that point to make up for thier lack of driving intelligence. Watch a Semi Truck driver jockey around a big rig into a loading dock off a busy street sometime. They dont run over curbs unless its intentional.

Why are you having meetings about this? Do you have committee meetings to discuss whether to fix a broken pipe or replace a burned-out light bulb?

This is a matter for the facilities department -- send a memo.

Generally I've only heard positive words about the car. Anytime anyone calls it a "garage queen" I remind them that I've been averaging around 5000 miles a year since I've had the car.

My boss, who's into German cars, initially berated me when I bought the car, especially the money I was paying out every winter to replace worn-out parts. Then he bought an '87 Porsche 930 Turbo, the same things began happening to him, and all criticism of the Ferrari stopped! (In fact, he had to have the engine rebuilt, which has not been needed on the 328 at all!)

I have the only Ferrari in the company. The first day I brought it in to work, I emptied the office with everybody in the parking lot checking out Ferrari out, including my boss who drives a 997. No funny jokes mentioned.

Ignore them.........it's jealousy. You'll be criticized even more if you try to explain further.

I never drive the Ferrari to work. I drive my LandCruiser with 200,000 miles on it. I couldn't care less where I park it or if someone is going to ding it with their door. Twice when I took the FCar to work, the office emptied to check it out. After the 50th request for a ride in the car, I decided I would never take it back to work.

The meeting was to discuss a research convention where many outside scientists & physicians will be attending. Parking was only one issue where the limit of our daily parking capacity will be exceeded.

no, driving up a small curb is easy for almost all vehicles. if yours won't do it, park somewhere else. are you expecting them to make an accommodation for probably the only vehicle that can't do it? Drive another car that day or take a bus.

i just started a new job last week. the first friday every month the downtown business district has a street festival featuring a car show, bands, food etc. one of my new co-workers came by last night and when he saw me with my car, quite seriously, said "are you rich". i totally fell out laughing. monday should prove to be interesting.

When anyone makes fun of my F-cars, I usually respond by telling them that "Their wife is ugly, and their kids are slow"... Of course, I'm just kidding. :)

All commercial parking lots in the US have to be built to certain codes dictating such things as curbing heights, shapes, and location. If the lot isn't up to the proper specifications, feel free to voice your concern to the appropriate folks at the company (i.e., Facilities Management) --- if it is up to code, and things aren't Ferrari (or any other low clearance vehicle) friendly, well then we all just have to live with that and find other places to park.

At a former employer of mine in Portland, Oregon, I used to generously tip the grounds security guards to let me park my 308 in a nice, safe, corner of the lot where parking wasn't really permitted. This worked out very well for years. :)
