I would PPI that car but if it cost you $15K after you get it for $50s you are still ahead. No doubt this will end a lot higher.

Info from the registry says the car was listed on Ebay 07/2007 by private party. At that time it had 20K miles on it....

Nay Sayers, where are you. As much as it hurts on paper, prices on 355s are way down from the last 2 years.

They will go up! Me thinks now is the time to buy! Really, can 355s go for less than 348/328? Heck no! There not as pretty as 308/246 but they they're a heck of a lot sweeter looking than 360s and performance is close enough and they 355 sounds better than 360/430.

Read through the bottom of the auction link. The bidding stopped long before it expired due to the seller's message. This is a $70k at least.

This sounds more like a Nigerian scam, especially after reading the Q&A section.

    That is rich :)

A Nigerian scam with a direct phone number to a Seller in Napa Valley???

Yes you have to be careful but I don't think he is asking someone to wire money to an off shore account.

"Upon confirmed receipt of the 50k dollars I will have the Spider delivered to your home and will promptly send you the title"

    LOL

You seem to be really smart :). Obviously, you have no clue how those scams work. We have arrested many of these scammers that have even opened US bank accounts for people like you to wire money into. They have US telephone numbers, and will even answer your call if you called the number. Go ahead and wire the money, but please do not call any law enforcement office and waste their time because nothing was "delivered to your home".

    LOL

Correct, I would personally never do it.

If I found myself in a situation where I needed help, my first call would be to my Legal Team.

They charge the same per hour as some burned out, under paid, wage slave, Civil Servant earns in a week , but that is how you get it done.

It is a sad commentary on a Capitalistic Society, but it is reality.

    Cheers.

The car was not in great condition either. If you look closely at the soft top, it's clear that it would need to be replaced. If anyone knows of a clean F355 / Spider in the $75k-$80k PM me. Red preferred, but will entertain others....except yellow.

"Legal Team" LOL!!! That's how those smart lawyers make their money from over paid, non deserving, half witted people who end up losing even more money after paying their lawyer... then they go whining and crying like little girls at law enforcement offices, begging for help. Very sad reality.

Law Enforcement can not even control Identity Theft in The US. How in the world can we expect them to battle over seas crime ? If your identity is stolen in the US they hand you a pamphlet on Identity Theft and tell you to add a note to your credit report. It does nothing to combat the crime.

If you have someone steal your credit card number Law Enforcement will only respond where the credit information was stolen not where the card was used. Hello, when I am traveling I use my card in 10 states. The Feds are no help either.

It is not the Civil Servant's fault, they are dong their best to support their family and one day get a pension.

    Best advice: Caveat Emptor !!!

My friend, under the doctrine of caveat emptor, the buyer could not recover from the seller unless the seller actively concealed latent defects (I am not trying to teach you anything here... Real Estate is your expertise), and this applies mostly to Real Estate cases only.

In those Nigerian scams, they work in a different manner than common credit card identity theft as you explained it. They scan online for vehicles for sale, copy and sometimes modify pictures, establish a telephone number and a bank account in the US, then advertise the vehicle at an extremely low price. An innocent buyer would call the number and engage in several conversations with the "seller" thinking all is legit. Next thing you know, the buyer sends a deposit and usually that's when they run/relocate and do it again.

Here's a sad example: An old man saw an ad for a car, made the calls and someone came to his house to collect the deposit from him and handed him a "bill of sale" with the remaining balance to be paid after he receives the car! That was it! After they get your cash, it is too hard to track them. We used to get them when they get greedy and do it again from a nearby location. But now they caught on to that.

As far as credit card/ID theft, it is a matter for local police because most amounts are below certain Fed statutes. The Feds deal with these cases only when the amounts rise to the minimum stated in the statutes.

Anyway, we just hope people are really careful before they trust some bozo who is advertising for something that seems too good to be true. You will be surprised how many people are still not careful.

Brent, sorry to hijack this thread like this. I will be calling you regarding a possible 355 I spotted in your neck of the woods (after I research it).

I am having a hard time finding a car, maybe because I am being too specific: I am looking for a 95 355 TB first color choice is Yellow, 2nd and last color choice is Red/Tan. I don't care if it has high mileage or if it needs a major service, but I do prefer that the issues (ie. valves, manifolds etc...) are taken care of. I have already inquired about 2 Red and 2 Yellow 95 355's and their issues ranged from no service history, to being in minor accidents to one being extremely high priced. Of course, had I been wanting a black one, or a convertible Yellow one, they are now available at decent asking prices!

I almost bought a 2003 Porsche Twin Turbo last week because I couldn't find a 355! But then my garage is filled with Ferrari flags hanging everywhere, and I sold my 348 2 weeks ago! I can't be parking a Porsche under those flags!!!

Chris! How've you been? I hope all is good with you and especially your little princess!

I'm telling you I am getting impatient! I think it is because the weather here finally is turning into what I call "Ferrari weather"! I spotted one at some dealership called "Cammisa" in Burlingame, CA. It has low mileage but his asking price is ridiculous:

    http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=1&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7cE-%7cM-_51_%7cD-_1402_%7cN-N%7cR-10000%7cI-1%7cP-PRICE+descending%7cQ-descending%7cZ-46307&aff=national&paId=259731172&recnum=75&leadExists=true

Other than the one above, currently I see nothing anywhere!

Low miles on that one....good thing I'm not buying right now :)
    I'd snatch it up
