I finally had enough! Enough of those crappy TRX's, enough of the outragous cost, enough period! It took me a while but I found a set of 15" wheels from a Series 1 400i. (I didn't go 16's because I still wanted to be factory correct for the model.) I had them refinished at www.wheelsamerica.com . Ordered a set of modern day Pirelli P4000, Z rated, super tourers. Wheels, shipping, tires, tax, mount and balance, & new valve stems and I'm still ahead of a set of new TRX's and have MUCH better tires. . Thanks for the lead on the tires Aidan. PS - glad you got her fired up and running again. We want pictures of your Dad in the front seat again when he's here.
OUTSTANDING! Now I have one more thing to add to my list of things "to do". So how does the ride and handling compare to the TRXs? Al
Dave FWIW, I think they look great! I've got 'em on mine too, as you know. Aidan Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
i think they look just fine Dave...and the real point, obviously, was that you've opened a host of avenues 'tire wise'. good score. let us know how things go with the Pirelli's, as i love the idea of Italian boots on the 'old girl'. p.s. that second pic is really outstanding Aidan...and the rubber looks perfect.
To answer some of the above; it rides, handles, sounds, etc. much better. Its modern day rubber technology versus 25+ year old technology. The tire road noise is gone. Italian tires on an Italian car? The good news is there isn't any difference in the way they look. All 400/400i's through sometime in 1981 had 15" wheels. The bad news is good luck trying to find a set of 15" wheels from a series 1 car. I know of a set that was for sale as of last November, he wanted $2k.
Happy motoring on the newtreads, Dave..Your WhiteCab was delicious.. wonderful..I'm not sharing the second bottle..Jacques.
