Right, when you do a Find Posts from user's profile you have option to view thread or view that post, but view thread doesn't go to their first post.

The attachment vs. thing makes a lot of sense. But why is it that on some older posts (like a few years old) the photos are missing any way?

The reality is that, functionally, this is a very fine forum. The majority of improvements to FerrariChat that can be made are centered around the people who post in it. I would subscribe and find this site much more valuable if people didn't make so many personal attacks, throw insults around, and type like they failed a remedial grammar course.

Whereas the quality of the threads ultimately lies in the posters, the moderators can do a lot more to cut down on the bashing and rudeness. You can say that the majority of threads are amicable and full of good conversation and useful information -- and that is indeed very true -- but it only takes a minority to taint the whole, and the best forums out there have zero tolerance for the kind of b.s. that flies around here. Regarding spelling and grammar, any kind of spell check or other filter would both alleviate the frustration of people who know how to write and set an example for those who are still learning.

    Guys,

You know the white 328 that's next to the FerrariChat.Com banner? How about making the three girls around the car a little more visable? Like the girl in the white bikini that's kind of bending towards the hood, or the girl in the black bikini with those hips, it's hard to really make out what they look like. That picture needs to be BIGGER!

I'd agree on the idea of granting paying members the ability to re-search in less than 30 seconds.

But, by far and away my BIGGEST request for the site:
PLEASE CORRECT/FIX/ENABLE THE ABILITY FOR THE SITE TO REMEMBER WHAT THREADS YOU'VE REALLY VIEWED!!!!

When I come to the site, ONLY those threads that are new since my last visit are shown as un-read. All of the threads that were unread on my previous visit are all marked as read. I find this incredibly annoying!

I suspect this is a performance issue maintaining each user's session details so why not just make this a paying-member-only feature????

    Rob,

This thread started a nite or two ago, contains a great idea to make F-Chat a better place (and it's GREAT now).

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192611

Using a template, people could create a standardized format "How-To by Car/Series" for the rest of us who do our own maintenance (the only way I can afford my car). A real-life example of Search not working (thankfully) and turning up a rare jewel. I was looking for a "bezels" thread of a fellow F-Chatter. Used Search. Up popped a thread on how to "fix" the sticky or downright unusable TEMP/AIR levers in 308's. Mine were almost frozen solid and one bezels was broken from being forced. :( I followed the 4-year old thread exactly even the "where to purchase the required goodies" part, and as of today (I finished!!! Yea!!!!) my levers almost move by themselves. UNBELIEVABLE. They move much like a hot knife thru butter. Thanx F-Chat and posters to that old thread!! But I should have been able to find that in the "How To" Section. I do not mean to be presumptuous, but I can give you detailed ideas on how you might administer the Section if you're interested (I was thinking about this idea a lot the past few days), as this idea could get outta hand real quick.

The other thing I would seriously consider adding and it has been touched on but not exactly mentioned, is a Library Section. We could (should?) have access to every document that has ever been published with a Ferrari document number. Some of the books are extremely rare and VERY expensive, but if someone wanted to share, then so be it. I have downloaded hundreds of megabytes of manuals, shop books, parts catalogues, etc., etc. from several other sites fearing that one day they'll go "PooF!" I have hundreds of docs on F-Cars I will NEVER own and therefore e-books that I will NEVER use, but if someone here mentions a need I might just have it or know where to get it. One I have never been able to find BUT that is supposedly out there (according to a eBay vendor who wants a he11-of-a-lot of coin for a copy), is a Shop Manual for the early 80's GTBi/Si and Mondial 8. Why isn't it here?

    Looking forward to it.

    Mark

And, choosing the "thread" option can work in your favor - Once on the thread itself, just hit "Search this thread" in top right.
As it happens, my very first thread on the then-new site was posted shortly after said then-new site started: Hot tip: "Printable Version" hauls butt
    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216
Since the F-Chat "Printable Version" is no longer abled, is this the reason why?

Bear in mind, substantial majority of f-chatters keep "default" as their theme.

I've "dressed up the homepage" a bit... using slightly different recipe to modify lines surrounding this and that on Red/Gray and Default Themes.

Compared to standard v-bulletin "flat" appearance, either displays as "rounded" on Firefox; "Square & bolder" on Internet Exploder.

The search function is mentioned but there is nothing telling people how to use it (or even where it is). I tried putting a tutorial together but my computer skills are nowhere near up to the task. Maybe we could start a thread with step by step instructions or at least how-to tips on searching that you could link in the e-mail? I know even though I've been here a while I could still use tips on searching!

Remove the last post on the home page for the Racing and Tracking section. This will eliminate the problems we had yesterday for spoilers.

I think the single most substantive improvement - that would have + ripple effects from reducing resource demand of this great site's serverpower AND reduce annoyance at seeing the same how-to-questions every few days from noobs - is a stickied How To section. See discussion here http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=192611

I've noticed some other forums, when you do an advanced search and go to type in posts by a certain member's alias....as you type the letters, a box appears and it displays all the members with that spelling. As you spell out the name more, the list of available member names decreases until there is just one member to choose from.

This is helpful, as sometimes I don't know the exact spelling or capitalization of a member's name.

Another suggestion; I'd like to see the elimination of posts that reference religion (happy hanukah , merry christmas etc.) This is a Ferrari site and should stick to related topics.

As an atheist, I find religious postings an annoyance.

Religion should be kept to yourself. Enough wars have been started throughout history over religious beliefs. No need to start any on FCHat.

    FWIW:

My only quibbles have to do with the search function.

    1. Like others, I would prefer to see more powerful search logic - at least Boolean AND and quoted phrase. When researching dealers, for example, so many have such similar names that an "OR" search returns way too many threads (recent example: sports car company).

    2. I would also like to see a "jump to search term" capability in the search results rather than have to scroll through to find the highlighted term.

    3. I've never really had a problem waiting the 30 seconds but if you can reduce it, fine.

Rob, if these are what passes for criticisms you have a lot to be proud of. And by the way, I think this is the best-moderated site of any I have visited. Knowledgeable, committed, fair-minded - who could ask for better?

Tolerance on everyone's part would do more to avoid the aforementioned religious disputes than strict censorship.

Banning by group vote - - be nice to get rid of some of the trolls / annoyances that seem to pop up from time to time - that piss everyone off. Even just a way to bring an offensive / annoying post to the Mods attention. Oh, yeah - and ban Martin more. : )

Already available. See that little red-bordered triangle in the top right frame of each post? That's the "Report a Post to Mods" button!

I guess my only big gripe is that the "quote" function is used WAY too much. I have never used it. Personally, if I want to quote something, I limit it to one sentence, and I type it in by hand. What is the point of quoting a huge post and then adding "+1"?

My other gripe is that when I use the search fuction, it always jumps out of the box unless I move really, really carefully to "GO".
