By that logic Larini is a great driver too: Races Run 75 Victories 0 Podium 1 Pole Position 0 Fastest Lap 0 Finish in points 2 Points 7.00
I'd like to say i have always liked Phil and i like him more today! You have to admit, is a near perfect #2 driver.
He is the perfect # 2 driver that qualified 2nd, passed the pole sitter within 100 yards, and stayed at least 3.5 seconds ahead of the # 1 driver, no matter how hard # 1 pushed. I'd say he's a lot better than a perfect # 2 - he was, today anyway, by far and away the best driver in the field.
Opinions seem to change as the wind blows. So after 2 blunders in the first two races and a win in the third race, he is now a great driver?
Today, Lewis is the goat. (Do we need a "spoiler" marking -- or does the "spoilsport" nature of these threads imply that already? )
What more really needs to be said, other then one should not sell their F 40 and F 50 for a Cal Spyder....... just kidding good god you have a great garage/s. Andrew
To be fair, the Renault of Arnoux was having an engine problem, so Gilles´ car was superior in those final laps. In fact, Arnoux deserves some credit for fighting so bravely to hold position with an ill car. I really really like Gilles Villeneuve. But he was not God, he had his share of bizarre mistakes. But anyway, I think that we shouldn´t mention him in this thread, he died long time ago and has nothing to do with this.
Sorry, just want to make sure; are you trying to be funny here? I seem to remember some influential individual named Jean, and also a Nicholas? I think they are related too, correct me if I am wrong.
Yes, if those who don't feel Massa deserves his Ferrari ride were claiming he was incapable of winning a race. Except nobody said that, so that he scored a win is not a counterpoint to the points made, regardless of how fortuitous it is for Ferrari.
So what was all the b!tching about then? He has a bad start to the season so screw him and get a new driver? You say one thing, then after he wins you try to cover your ass with a comment like that? Get a clue... and go Massa.
points made about Massa are one side of the story, you guys are saying glass is half empty, I say its half full, if you do justice, you will know your heart is full of prjudice & so you get hurt when a south american claims his skills with wins over gr8 drivers like Kimi and Lewis for those like you, its a nightmare so keep watching it
Correct me if I am wrong, but Arnoux caught and passed Gilles with 3 laps to go. Doubtfull a limping car would catch and pass the 2nd place car of Gilles with 3 laps to go. Arnoux was caught by surprise that Gilles had repassed him again. His own words from the interview after the race. He didn't offer up an excuse other than Gilles was like a nat you couldn't get rid of. And it was Gilles who ended up on top after that magnificent 3 lap dual for second place. Arnoux failed to hold position as you tried to point out. The Renault of Arnoux was clearly the faster car over the Ferrari in that race. I'm not sure where you watched the race from, but I believe your recollection to be inaccurate. Everyone is entiltled to their opinion and ALL F1 drivers will make mistakes, but if this is your method of raising your hand for Massa then you clearly have not witnessed the greats over the years.
what the heck are you yapping on about? getting hurt when a south american claims his skills? you talk about prejudice, but don't your realize that sort of thing cuts both ways?
YOU should get a clue. the gripes last year, and ongoing now, has to do with the fact that he is very inconsistent and cannot come to grips when the going gets tough. it's been said that he can win on occasion, when the stars align, when his car is working great, etc, etc. I don' think you've been following the F-chat Shumassa 'controversy' very well. So, please, go get a clue.
mike, it's hard to debate anything with someone who had seemingly jumped into the Shumassa debate only recently. if they'd follow this 'ordeal' longer, everything would be easy to understand. yes, it was great that we got a Ferrari 1-2, and Massa drove well with a great setup all weekend. But that's just it, when things are less than perfect, he's hard to watch. Kimi's car wasn't working great all weekend, but securing second place despite that, is great. Great, Massa got the job done this time around, but trying to predict his future performances is a roll of the dice. Good weekend for Ferrari though.
Speaking of getting a clue, you could try actually reading all the Massa comments and then you would know what people are saying and then you wouldn't end up making posts replying to things that were never said. Then *you'd* have a clue.
This post is a perfect illustration of a point I made in another thread about people who don't reply based on Massas skill but rather make it personal. Translation of your post is "you are prejudiced and you don't like south americans so you hate it when he wins, and I like the fact that it hurts you to watch it". Once again a personal attack response to criticism of Massa rather than one based on facts and data. So, congrats on the excellent point. Err, or something. Again, re-read what has been written. I don't think anyone has ever claimed that Massa cannot run the car around the track very quickly. And nobody has said he's not more than capable of winning a race from the front. So, the fact that he won the race from 2nd (and got 1st position right off the line) is no surprise to anyone and serves as no counterpoint to the points previously raised.
Just for the record: http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/rr321.html Arnoux was having problems. And yes, the Ferrari was not the fastest car in that race (Jabouille won) but I think that we can´t say so happily that Gilles had inferior equipment. After all, Ferrari won that Championship. That´s because those men had some pride and didn´t care to admit when they were beaten. This is the kind of crap I really hate in this Massagate: I WAS TALKING ABOUT DIJON 79, VILLENEUVE AND ARNOUX. MASSA EVEN WASN´T ALIVE THEN. And now, like Lewis Hamilton said: go swivel!!
I've noticed something. Massa takes himself off track with one mistake in Malaysia, and everyone wants his head. Hamilton blows the start then runs up the back of the Renault, and he's the victim of poor management. Anyone want to roast Button for getting tangled up with DC? Nice to see the consistent standards being applied.
Forza Ferrari a great 1 & 2 Forza Massa you did the 1st. step to the 2008 crown. (15 to do) Forza Kimi nice race. Image Unavailable, Please Login
