A real 206S is a $2M+ car these days. I just spent some time looking at the Cavalleria book on the 206S and it's pretty clear that there is little in common between a production 206/246 and the 206S sports racers. That being said, it would be a cheap way to get a pretty track/show car that you could have lots of fun with. I went to the H&H Classic auction site and they don't have any more pictures of the car posted - it would be nice to see if they did a good job with the back of the car and the interior.

On the other hand an important car was cut up to make a very unimportant one.

I suspect the original Dino donor probably had...some issues.

It was a valiant attempt but it really isn't a particularly good result. A real 206 S, like the road going Dino, is perfect from every angle. This just doesn't look right.

    My $0.02.

Having owned one of these (S/N 002) I feel qualified to say that this one misses the mark by a long way. What a pity to put all that work into something that is that wrong!

ouch, the three quarter shot from the rear show how badly they missed the mark!

The three quarter shot almost hurts.

I know it's not supposed to feel like that. Hence, the high estimate.

But then again, maybe it could be rebodied...

    ... again.

i would be interested to know what "real" dino was used. the body lines look painful and not well done. i have seen non-ferrari recreations that look far better than this. there is no mention i remember about the type of body. is it metal or fiberglass? i am even more surprised at the folds in the body to create the shape. dino's don't have this, rather racing versions or street versions, and they make this car look goofy

A lot of effort for a poor result. I've been eyeing the real deal at Symbolic motors for some time now. Every time I ask the price it goes up.

The 206SP is my all-time favorite car. I would choose it over a P3/P4 and think it is a lovelier car, with better proportions. But that is all academic, of course.

I wish that recreation were better done. For a second there, my hopes lit up.

Yep, perfect from any angle. Jon, please buy it!

I remember visiting Talacrest in the mid 90's on a business trip to the UK and there was an unrestored 206 S in the shop for servicing - drop dead gorgeous and patina o'plenty. The other Dino from the 60's worth considering for vintage racing (if you like open wheel race cars) is the 166 F2 car. It's like a little Ferrari 312 F1 car and it too is perfect in every way.

One thing about the Dino brand - all of the designs associated with it are beautiful. While I believe the rumors of a new Dino branded car from Ferrari aren't going to materialize, if a Dino does emerge, they better do the brand right in terms of design and performance. I think cars like the Lotus Elise/Exige and Porsche Cayman are nice examples of how to build a car which is small and less powerful then their bigger brethren but in many ways, more desirable for the right consumer.

Jon, let me second my own opinion. Buy it!
