Oh no, this thread has become another Skykline vs (insert car here) thread. I got embroiled in one long ago, it didn't go anywhere. And neither will this. Remember the new GTR (not even called Skyline) is a different beast entirely from the older Skyline. We cannot say anything intelligent about the performance until it actually comes out. Outrageous claims like the Nurburgring time that started this thread deserve derision, but discussing them before the car is actually released is still pointless.
We all know what it is. Its real obovous that the only car from Nissan that wheres GTR badges is a Skyline. thats like GM making a new Supercar and calling it the Z06, yeah its still the greatest bang for the buck deal, its powered by the good old small block engine and yet people are gonna be oxy morons and act like its a totally diffrent car and not say its a corvette.
Why don't you *wait* and see what the new GTR does *after* it comes out, instead of trying to paper-race with unreliable specs? I am as much against Skyline fanboyism as you are, but my misgivings are based on real world performance of the *previous* models in stock trim against other cars. The new GTR is different. We cannot say how good it is until we see it in the flesh, people test it on the track and race it against other cars, and, preferably, we drive it ourselves. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and start making pronouncements before the facts are in.
+1 Listen to this guy... One thing is Corvette Z06 vs everything threads but another thing "A car that's not for sale" vs everything...
I think the legend of the GT-R will end as soon as the car is released in North America. The only reason why there are still so many GT-R fanboys out there is because you can't buy one here. People prefer cars that are 'not available to sell' as opposed to 'unaffordable cars.' Those dreams will be shattered when the GT-R shows up at Nissan dealerships all over the world and long awaiting fans finally realize they can't afford it. (People who could actually afford it will most likely buy a Porsche or Corvette instead) I am all for Nissan and GT-R, but I don't see how a 3500lb AWD car with a turbo 6 can lap Nur faster than purpose built race cars.
Iam not saying NOTHING about the new GTR until I see it for myself in person. like I said I like Skylines alot and I plan on ownership here in the next couple of months(12-24months?) but I will use it like a RollsRoyce, not a race car. If I wanted a high performance car id get a real car like a Z06 or SRT-10. By the time you spend all that money modifying a Skyline you could have owned a Diablo or a 360.
You always have negative things to say about Japanese cars. If Chevrolet had of build the 2JZ and threw it in a Vette you would have praised it and been swinging of its nuts. When Nissan designed the new GTR they went directly after the new 911 Turbo, they couldnt give a **** about either the Z06 or SRT-10, real cars.. gimme a break. The R32 was everybit as good as the C4 and R34 as good as the C5, heck the NSX-R which was way down on power still managed to run the same time around the ring as the C5 Z06. I hope the new GTR can run in the 7:40s and we all know 600hp is just a boost controller away. Before you whine about skyline fanboys, Im not a Skyline fanboy at all, I like everything, you however are a domestic sack swinger.
The highlight of last week heading to Suncoast/Burbank to pick up a somewhat rare DVD, a nice graphite metallic R33 near the mall entrance in the covered parking garage and wasn't riced out. My passenger spotted it immediately. If you can't appreciate a rare car beyond your own favorite manufacturer, how much of a car enthusiast are you, really? Domestic purist *****es. http://blogs.edmunds.com/Straightline/3461?tid=edmunds.il.home.photopanel..1.* I have to say 7.38 is very good. Now the question is, which GTR was it? Standard- 480hp $57,000 V Spec- 480hp $67,000 GTR-EVO SPEC 530hp (200lb lighter) $94,000
their having a 530hp version? where does it say that? They said $75k in the article? but either way thats right around the price range of the 600hp viper and 650ish hp corvette zr1 whenever that comes out but still impressive.
http://www.leftlanenews.com/nissan-takes-pre-orders-for-gt-r.html Nissan dealers in Japan is now taking pre-orders.
All they have to do is badge it an Infiniti. Look at the upcoming Lexus (LF-A?), supposed to be way over $100K; I'll bet they'll sell a thousand a year here in the U.S.
it's gonna be a Nissan, even in the U.S. the IS-F looks okay, but i dont think it'll do well considering the company it's in [new M3, RS6[?], GTR, etc]
Thats what I was going to do was buy a G35 and slap some GTR badges on it and use it as a daily driver. Iam just hoping that if Lexus goes forward with this car, they release a cheaper one rebadged as a Supra and sell it for less than 50k. If GM did it with the Corvette and XLR, I can't see why Toyota and lexus can't work something. Otherwise over 100k for a lexus is ridiculous but will see what happens.
I know. I was just pointing out that since no Nissan (in the U.S.) has ever been priced so stratospherically it might be easier for all the potential buyers out there to stomach a $75,000 GT-R if it had a luxury badge on it; I suppose that's the reason Lexus, Infiniti and Acura exist alongside with their utilitarian counterparts- to charge double (or more) what a car is truly worth, and get away with it, because they're selling the "luxury" experience.
The Lexus is supposed to have a 5.0(?) V10, and the Supra was strongly rumored to be running some sort of V6 hybrid. I don't think they were supposed to share platforms, but knowing how Toyota operates I wouldn't be totally surprised to see it, although I sincerely doubt it. More like the Supra would run off some mid-priced 4 door chassis, as it did in the 90s.
Yeah but that was the 90's most companys back then where still expermenting with suff to see what works and what doesn't. Now that most companys have a clear picture of what they want it to do, they will most likely have something built to challenge the Corvette Z06 and Viper SRT-10, Mustang GT500, performance, looks and technology and such. I could see like a V6 watered down model but again the Z06 best bang for the buck crap is in and what a better way to release something from the newest worlds largest automaker to challenge the beloved corvette. Its like the Skyline thats about to be released, I know nissan wanted to show what they can do against the 911 and americas sportscar. Who knows it could be the begining of a new world order if this time attack is offical.
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/nissan-gt-r-v-spec-lap-times-stun-observers/ that is pretty amazing if true.
