The functionality and look of the Yahoo Mail client is far superior and I was just wondering if anyone had any idea about when we can expect Gmail to upgrade out of the current Beta version. Anyone?

Far superior? I think that's open for debate, unless I'm missing something (I just checked my Yahoo mail account online).

As for when Gmail will be out of "beta".. it's continually getting improved, it's free, who cares? :)

Are you looking at the old yahoo mail or the newest one? You can organize folders much more easily, you can scroll through your entire inbox, you can click on an email and have it show up at the bottom of the screen while still letting you see other emails.

Essentially it is almost identical to how Outlook Express functions.

I love my gmail. I've had it since it started and I don't use any other service (Except my work email).

Then how come on the top left of the screen after you login it says "BETA" underneath the Gmail logo?

Depends on your preference I guess- I can't stand how Outlook (or any variation of it) functions, but Gmail is completely intuitive and problem-free for me.

I didn't like Outlook because it's on your specific computer and I had to setup that POP3 crap every time I had to reinstall my OS. That and I would lose all my messages if my harddrive crashed. Google did it right.

It is for all practical purposes a gold release product that gets periodic updates. If it were a true beta product there'd be a problem, not a gripe with what you can and cannot do. Having had multiple accounts with the earliest starting on 5/7/04 I have yet to encounter a problem, glitch, or bug with ~50% of my inbox space being used. While my experiences may not speak for everyone, I have not heard of any unless you count the few times spam winds up in your inbox.

My first account (and I'm assuming a few others) received their first piece of email from the GMail team thanking them for agreeing to test Gmail:
My last account I registered (07/09/06) received a similar email but it doesn't mention anything about testing.
