There's a picture with a bunch of tires in it, and they don't look like they have any tread on them, just two lines down the center....wouldn't surprise me if they are a type of drag radial. Why would anyone track a car with street tires??
The article says that the front splitter and rear spoiler are now carbon fiber and those two pieces alone saved them 330 lbs??? Sorry, but I have to call BS on that one. It also say they tweeked the turbos for 70HP (crank or wheel HP? I bet it's wheel HP) and are using different wheels.
It looks like stink and it goes like stink! LOL Personally, I'm disappointed by the styling and overall size and heft of the car. I guess it having seating for 4 and engineered for the world market has a lot to do with it. What current 2+2 looks good in comparison to a dedicated 2 seater these days? It seems to be a mechanical tour de force though. To bad it wasn't in the hands of Pninfarina. I'm afraid as more and more performance cars get styled by the windtunnel/CFD, we're gonna be hearing a lot more of "Wow it did the Green Hell in under 6 mins in reverse gear but, it looks like ass!" Still, the Skyline GTR has always looked butch dating back to the r32. It was designed to compete in groupe B and took its boyracer cues from the e30 M3 and went on from there. As it did back then and still does now, its an ugly duckling that grew into an ugly duck! Anyone recall what Ferrari and Porsche's group B offerings were back then...absolute swans. Enjoy whatever floats in your pond people.
"In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38, the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds." If that's what you took from the article then you have a different style of reading comprehension than I do When you start with something close to two tons, there's quite a lot that can be replaced or removed, and carbon fiber is pretty dern light.
GTR V-Spec is to GTR what ZO6 is to Corvette, M3 is to 3 series, 911 GT2 is to 911 Turbo, etc. It's just race version of the GTR, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was that fast. On the side note, the new LF-A from Toyota is doing 7:25 around the ring also. I guess this is the result of Japanese sports car without the HP limit. They are just going crazy because they couldn't do it until now due to regulations.
The GT-R V spec is awesomeness! everyone seems awful testy we're all sports car fans here- we should be ecstatic to hear of any car manufacturer giving a **** about performance nowadays- given gas prices and the worlds monster boner for all things green This car isnt aiming to convert F Car guys - its aiming for 911 and Z06 guys and as much **** as everyone seems to be tossing at the Nissan badge - and how a "Nissan will never be a Ferrari no matter how fast it goes" - if your stock $220k car can't outrun a stock $80k car on a track - a Ferrari won't be a Ferrari for too much longer either- regardless of how much prettier it is. If exotics are no faster than sub $100k cars - doesn't that diminish them a bit?
Who cares if a Lamborghini is slower than a Corvette, I could build an Ultima GTR or the FFR GTM which is a kitcar I may add that will run circles on a Nissan GTR Vspec for alot less so whats your point?. Its a great car I will defnately look into one in the future for sure as well as many Fcar owners and future exotic owners. We need to enjoy these cars regardless of who builds them or how fast they are while they are here because with the way things are going they will probably be gone tomorrow.
As far as the regular GT-R goes - we a re talking a stock GT car- not a stripped down Ultima GTR in which you are giving up a ton of creature comforts and reliability to produce that speed- not so with the GT-R- with the Nissan whats the sacrifice? I think the comparison I made is an apples to apples one- where as the Ultima GTR or modded car comparison is apples to oranges. I think the comparison you made would be fair if I said a modded supra or caterham is going to diminish the appeal of an exotic.
I won't go into that arguement. the GTM and Ultima can be built into whatever the hell you like it because its a kitcar, there are no factory options or specs on it, You decide on the comfort features and practicalitly. Has anyone modified a GTR yet?. I know Hennessey has a section on his site for the GTR.
thats my point- you are comparing a kit car to an unmodified GT from a major manufacturer Ultima is a very cool nonetheless
I donno Id say the V-spec is the ZR1 in this case cause its a totally diffrent animal. You wait until somebody mods one and all hell is gonna break lose!.
Turbos and intercoolers are amazin things. Porsche needs to drag out the Funny Car edition of the Turbo to re-align the world.
Yeah but you gotta leave room for a V-Spec II or maybe even a Z-tune Here's the previous generation Z-tune, quite a jump from even the V-spec of the time: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=106627
70 more hp and a drop of 300 lbs and they get a 13 second improvement over the regular GTR? Sounds like a pretty big improvement for those two factors.. over the GTR released last month... Anyone think this is a preproduction prototype again?
Probably. But folks seem to be forgetting that the 7:25 is coming from bystanders, not officials. I'd rather wait and see what Nissan says the time is than some guy who was standing trackside watching it go by.
