Could you have documented Kimi's option? That was rumored for over a year depsite all the denials from both Ferrari adn kimi...look what happened.

If you haven't read anywhere that Alonso has a deal in his pocket, then you must not be reading anything to do with F1, that has been the worst kept secret of the past 6 months...just like Kimi's deal.

 

The Schumacher-era Ferrari team was built for one purpose and one purpose only, to deliver the WDC to Michael. That's it. Do you think Schumacher cared for one second about the WCC? I sure don't.

If that were true, then Alonso would already be at Ferrari.

Ferrari has yet to win the WCC on merit with Massa in the second seat. Irvine and Rubens both delivered the WCC to Ferrari, thus far Massa has not. If the team's goal is to win the WCC (which I believe it is) then it makes obvious sense to maximize your points potential from BOTH drivers. You won't win too many WCCs with a driver who makes unforced errors all the time.

For all the criticism about Alonso, he has delivered the WCC on the track 3 years in a row, with last year's title being stripped from the team by the regulators. Alonso delivers the points on the track, Ferrari's second driver does not.

It's the reason why it took a while to sign a contract with renault.

 

And yet everyone wants Alonso for a multi-year deal. It doesn't seem to me like team owners are all that concerned about his "destabilizing" influence.

Multi year deals are the norm. He wanted a one year deal and Renault said no. He agreed to 2 yrs. Drivers usually sign multi year deals. He didnt sign with the teams that matter and thats his fault for folding like a lawn chair at Mclaren, pushed out by a rookie and his overbearing father Alonso and adversity just dont mix. Mid pack teams all love Alonso, he was available and pushes their profiles higher in the spotlight. Their cars dont thats for sure Alonso was left with little but bad car/mid pack options. His one year deal thing was his way to control his bailout that they all knew would occur. Alonso was and is buying time and HOPING for a break back to the front. One year deals dont bring stability.

Hes weak no matter how good he is in the seat. Kimi is the best package out there. Alonso will be a has been unless he gets a break in the near future. They all want him yes!!. All that are in the mid pack right now. He has no hope of going to Mclaren or BMW or Ferrari. If he had a Fcar deal he wouldnt be mouthing off to stay in the limelight. Kimi had a deal and just said nothing or politely denied it. Any theories as to why Alonso runs his trap continously? Take a look at where he is and where he isnt. He is being left behind...and he hates it I find his saga quite entertaining. He has no one to blame but himself.

Yes, but they had commercial success when they won nothing in the races and viceversa, so I think that those things are not related. After all, their main market is the U.S., a place where nobody cares about European races.

Team managers didn't like the whining Alonso when he was at Renault or at McLaren, no doubt.

But they saw the bigger picture: Despite (or because of?) his whining in 2006 he managed to pull off the title against a mighty Schumacher in the Ferrari. And despite all the controversy last year, he was still in the running for the title until the very last race. As was his team mate. While he has an annoying strain in his personality, he still is one of the fastest drivers and leads the team forward towards victory.

Add to that his proven track record as a car developer: He turned the midfield Renault into a Ferrari/MS beating two time WDC machine. As soon as he left Renault, the car started to drop off and became midfield again under the "guidance" of Fisichella (who no wonder is now at Farce India).

As soon as he joined McLaren, the car became a WDC contender after years in the dolldrums. Now that he left McLaren, their ace Hamilton is struggling to keep it together and the team gets passed by BMW.

Sometimes a driver lucks into a WDC, it can happen. But there are no two times WDC by luck. The man is top notch and Ferrari knows it. As well as all other team managers.

 

Top notch as long as he is guaranteed a #1 status. He doesnt really compete well with pressure. Hence his folding up at Mclaren. Nerves of steel currently reside in Kimi. Doldrums at Mclaren? Really, how about Kimi's bad luck there when he was absolutely challenging MS for the title. Mclaren has been a competitive car for sometime. It had NOTHING to do with Alonso. Hence his leaving under duress. Hes a good driver, he is not the savior of Mclaren by any means. Thats just a bit of a stretch.

 

Mclaren weren't that competitive in 2006.
