9 credit cards??????? I would like to see the interest numbers stacking up on those bills. It has to be in the thousands monthly. Bankruptcy was only a matter of time.
Never knew you could use that many on a purchase? But damn why would you want soo many cards in your name at such a young age?..Im 24 and only had One Just get a BLACK card! hehe
A credit card is as good as cash to a seller, especially if the guy is paying you charges, as well. In my experience with different credit card processing setups, the fees are about 1-2% and a few cents, so charging 3% would actually net the seller extra money. Figuring 1% difference and $50,000 charged across 9 cards, it would take a little more than 15 minutes, if not less than that, to net an additional $500 for one's business with a 3% "processing fee" charged to the buyer. And that's not even counting the fact that you wouldn't have a sale unless you did take this untraditional route, at least in this particular case. Is it any surprise why any business would accept as many cards as it took to close the deal?
I now understand why Josh could not afford a $150 tire. His credit card bills look like the national debt clock.
Same with the registration, seems to me that he couldn't afford that too. It wasn't that he didn't want to register it, I guess he just couldn't afford the tax without another Credit Card or two!
Off topic but last I checked, it's against MC/VISA policy to charge a surcharge for accepting credit card transactions. Steve
I've heard many card issuers will actually dispute the surchage with the merchant if it is clearly called out. You'd still have to initiate it, but they word was they would dispute it and not make you pay it b/c it was against their policy.
It is, so you just call it a 'cash discount' instead, that's how all the municipalities, power companies, etc. get away with charging a 'convenience fee' for paying by credit card.
so what's the latest on this story? Has Josh got the car back yet and/or his money? is Roy in therapy learning to cope with the trauma of this whole episode?

The last 30 hours of my life have been so very painful. Out of respect for those involved, I read every page - every post. I wasted an entire day of my life, one that I will never get back ... it sucks. But now I will waste another 2 minutes throwing out my $0.02. Roy: If I had bought a car from you an encountered the problems that the OP had, I would have expected my money back (minus mileage considering what the OP managed to put on the car in the past few months) within a few days. That said, I would NOT have been a bumbling idiot about how I brought it to you. I would first called the company that attempted to confiscate my car, requested some sort of police report or proof of ownership of the car, and if they somehow managed to do just that (which it sounds like they can't since they don't have the title and they hadn't reported the car stolen until a few days ago), then I would have brought you that documentation and the title in exchange for my money. This probably would have been sufficient for your insurance company to get the ball rolling on their side so I doubt I would have had any issues with you. Given your reputation, I would have given you the benefit of the doubt. You do realize that the "steering column" is the plastic/metal shroud and underlying connecting rod that your steering wheel attaches to don't you? I'm guessing that smoke you smelled was the crack pipe burning my friend. A 10 year old with a Schwinn knows more about the mechanics of a car than you apparently do. He probably knows more about finance than you do too. Yes - if your car gets a flat, YOU are responsible. The fact that Roy replaced the tire for you speaks volumes about Roy's character and his reputation as a dealer. I'm going to give it to you straight-up. Regardless of what happens with this car, when all of this is done, you need to go buy a Civic, a Sentra, or a Corolla. Seriously. You do NOT have the money to drive this car. You do not have the financial wherewithal to spend this much money. For that matter, I suspect you do not have the financial wherewithal to order a Snapple and a slice of Pepperoni, but I digress. If all 9 cards are in YOUR name, which I don't believe they are but if they are, then there is still a sliver of hope left that someone in your family knows more about money than you do and I suggest you sit down with them and have a birds-n-the-bees talk with them about managing finances. If all 9 cards are NOT in your name, then I can only assume that the other cards came from family members which means that they know just as much as you do about managing finances and you should NEVER go to them for advice. Whatever they do with money, you do the opposite - you MIGHT come out okay. And who has been giving you advice on this car situation since the day it was picked up? You couldn't diagnose a flat tire without getting on a laptop and asking people on the web ... so there is NO WAY IN HELL you didn't ask everyone you know what to do when they confiscated your bling. An OBD-II scanner that contains the codes for ALL cars built after 1996 is about $100 and would have told you clear as day that your Check-Engine light was an O2 sensor fault and you could've picked up O2 sensors for about $4 a pop at PepBoys and replaced them yourself if you had the mental capacity to tie your own shoes. Of course, the shoe-tieing thing is suspect at this point. Roy has got a stellar reputation from what I can tell, which you must've picked up on as well considering you bought the car from him. So what moron gave you the bright idea that in order to get your money back, you should go on the web and spin a story that makes it seem like he committed fraud? Did you NOT think that the logical conclusion of that would be a court-battle that would cost you more money or did you simply not think? You need to stop posting, at least stop posting the way you have been, you drop the overall IQ value of this thread by 2 points every time you do which is a great feat considering its already in the red. The next post should be a simple update on what is happening, maybe an apology or two to Roy who, from what I can tell (and remember people, I did read all 76 pages), has gone so far above and beyond the call of duty on a USED CAR deal that I wish he sold brands in my price range so I could buy from him the rest of my life. If nothing else, this has been slightly entertaining.
