http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/31/video-pontiac-g8-embarrasses-bmw-5-series-in-internet-ad/ Pontiac's ad about their G8 against the 550i. Don't take it too seriously as a strict ad, guys.
I didnt even know there was a 550i........huh Anyway, I love videos like that, very entertaining. Its sorta like this one. http://www.break.com/index/powerthirst-sports-drink-spoof.html
The G8 is a very good car at its price point. I had a chance to drive one this past Saturday and came away impressed. The only thing I didn't like were the NACA type ducts on the hood.
LOL- I use to want a WS6 trans am sooo bad....give the G8 about a year it will depreciate HUGE just like the GTO, then probably a good buy.
ill take the pontiac for 1/2 the price... is it as nice inside as the 5 series? no, but is it $20+k nicer? not in my opinion... especailly when you consider the motor, looks, etc.... cant wait for the GXP!
BMW interior's arent great. I would almost dare to say that the G8 is cooler inside then the 5-series. Mabye not in fit and finish but in the styling dpt a little bit cooler.
I agree as well. Sat in a couple BMW's at the auto show and they are kind of depressing. Everything is black or dark grey.
That's because those are the most boring colors available, and they don't pick any different exterior. However, I would never trade my 5 in for a G8. The G8 disappointed me, after being hyped for it from the magazine previews.
I guess you want to pay more for a car that is not any faster? Or wait for the GXP and smoke the SRT-8's.
Performance isn't a priority of mine. I could careless if the G8 runs circles on an SRT-8 id still rather have the SRT than the G8. Pontiac needs to stop bringing Holdens to the US and rebadging them as Pontiacs. They need to bring back the TransAm for me to walk back into their showrooms again, so far I have been disapointed since the WS6 has been cut.
I just checked out a G8 V6 while picking up my dad's Yukon from service. WOW. It was the first one I've been able to check out and I was impressed just walking up to the car. It looks 110% fantastic from every angle. I walked all around and really liked what I saw, even the hood ducts (but I'm a teenager ). I sat in the interior and I thought it was absolutely huge! I mean, it's no 7-series, but I'm 6'1" and I had at least a few inches of headroom in the front seat. I also sit like an F1 driver (far back and reclined quite a bit) because I'm used to it from my 350Z. When I sat in the back behind my seat set up this way, I'd say anyone up to 6'4" would be comfortable, leg room-wise, behind my seat. And even if someone needed more room, I'm sure I could move the driver seat up 2-3" and still be fine driving. Headroom was a little tight in the back, that was my only complaint. Regarding the quality of the materials, the seats are my favorite part of the interior. The quality of the leather is great and the seats are very comfortable. The materials used for the dash are kinda plasticky and cheap, but at $20-30k less than the 5-series, I wouldn't complain one bit! It wasn't cheap-feeling enough to turn me away. It's also pretty well designed and just feels 'neat' on the inside. Overall, while I didn't drive the car, I came away very impressed and would like to drive one soon. In fact, if the V6 got 30+mpg on the highway, I think I might have already!
The G8 must be a lot nicer than the G6. I recently rented a G6 while in Springfield, Mass. and was appalled by the low quality interior. The exterior looked OK, but no where near a BMW ...
Classic American car comparison...they compare their top of the line G8 to a base 5 series. How about compairing the G8 to the M5. The G8 would have no chance!
The G8 GT is the middle G8, above the V6 G8: the top-of-the-line is the G8 GXP. Considering the G8 GXP is about $36k, and the M5 is $83k, if they can even get a comparison, they've already won. Also, the 550i is the top non-M 5-series. There is the 528, 535, and then 550i. BMW doesn't consider the M5 part of the 5-series line, but part of the 'M' line, it's that different. With that in mind, it looks like Pontiac is pitting their middle-spec car against the top-spec BMW car. The MSRP of the G8GT is 29995; the 55i 58500. To get them to the same spec, you have to option them up to 31395 and 60250, respectively.
