Check out Alonso's performance in the Minardi or the 2003 Renault and then tell me about his driving in a bad car.

To said it more precisely, Ferrari didn´t won GPs in 1995. Ferrari won GP, only one.

Yes, but that is 1 more than Renault won last year. Going from one win to three as Ferrari did in 1995-1996 is good but hardly an enormous reversal of fortune as some here want to portray it.

In fact two of the three wins of Schumacher in 1996 were quite lucky, while Alesi and Berger could have got one or two wins more with a bit of luck in 1995. I think that the real rising came in 1997 with the new technical staff, not with the new drivers in 1996.

That is right, Barnard was gone after 1996 and Byrne and Brawn replaced him in 1997.

Plus, Ferrari were still a little laughed-at in '96. Kind of in a sympathetic way where everyone knew better days lay ahead. I'll never forget the '96 Montreal race when Michael's drive shaft fell off while pulling out of the pits. Everyone in the seats was leaning forward, squinting to figure out what piece of the car had come off.

It's the only third race of the season. It took MS 7 races to win with a Ferrari that isn't anywhere near as bad as this year's Renault. Alonso has shown what he's made of just making it to Q3 in that pig of a car. Are you even watching? You must not be if you say Alonso has shown nothing. The one that's screwing the pooch so far this year, Australia aside, is Hamilton.

I honestly think Michelin had an advantage pairing with almost every powerhouse team (besides Ferrari) on the grid. Think about how much more track time and data they were able to collect from 3-4 good teams versus 1. More opinions and data for development = better product. just my opinion.

They had to develop a tire that would work well with several different chassis, Bridgestone only had to develop a tire that worked on the Ferrari. There was no need for compromise in Bridgestone's design. That is a huge advantage.

this thread is not about comparing his 'suckiness' to us, but to his peers...of course your hit and run with this topic, you don't have a clue what we've been yapping about. ANY ferrari driver has your support? um, ok.

Minardi? what did Alonso do in a Minardi? he shone only when he came to Renault. the real star of Minardi was Webber.

What a surprise. He has a Super License. Nobody on here qualifies, so yes you "win" that argument. Duh.

I'm sure drivers like Johannson, Larini, Badoer, Giovanardi etc are pleased to hear that.

Are you sure Alonso has a super license? Nothing he has done this year looks super to me. ;)

    LOL

It is a somewhat interesting topic that has changed over the years and I'm not up to speed anymore what the qualifications are. But I think the FIA got a lot more restrictive with who gets one. Particularly also for the test drivers. I think deals where a super rich guy can basically buy his drive (even a test drive) into a team are long gone.

Anybody on here know the details for super license to race and participate in test drives?

we all saw what Heikki could do in an ill handling Renault last year. we're also saw what Fisi has been doing in the Force India car. i'm sure Alonso could do better than them both, but that really depends if he;s committed to the team 100%, not hinting this and that at every gp.

Did anyone watch my link? Did Massa not win the last GP beating his team mate and WC? I will admit his performances are spotty but he is a great driver, I remember Senna pulling out of several races just cause he had no chance to score points. And yes I would not support Montoya or Alonso as drivers as I do not like them personally. However since this is a Ferrari board and I am a Ferrari supporter I will root for all that drive for the Red Religion!

    Why? Cause he said so!!

    Robert,

Please do not make comparisons between Senna and Massa ... that is completely insulting to the memory of Senna.

I personally do not remember Senna pulling out of races because he could not make points, but I may have missed some I guess. Senna was a legend in a completely different class than Massa now and Massa in his own dreams.

    Really?!? When?!?

I followed his career from his days in FF2000 and I can't recall him ever pulling out of a race because he had no chance to score points. This is a defamatory claim against perhaps the greatest driver F1 has ever seen.

    Huh?!?

Make up your mind. Do you support ALL drivers who drive for Ferrari or do you pick and choose?!? I find this argument laughable. The same guys who bust my chops for not supporting Massa, saying as Ferrari supporters we have to support anyone who drives for Ferrari...in the next breath claim they won't support the team if they sign Alonso?!? And this is somehow supposed to make sense?!?

    Patently absurd.

The team can (and does) make mistakes. Massa is one of them.

Massa is consistent in his inconsistency. :) A victory normally follows a ho-hum result.
