I recently got my hands on a beautiful 2002 360 Modena Spyder. Since I am a new owner, I'm also pretty new to the Ferrari forums. I'm looking to do some performance upgrades to my new toy and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I'm thinking high-flow cats and maybe some other type of easy bolt on. I'd really like to know what others have done, and what their experiences have been. I'm looking to purchase some stuff pretty soon, so please let me know if anyone has any info or suggestions.

    Thank you,

    Paul Mastoni

Paul, first of all, welcome to FerrariChat.
Congrats on the 360 Spider. (I'm not totally sure but I think it is spelled "spider" and not "spyder", isn't it?)
    What color is it?
And can you post a picture or two of it?

Also, what part of the country (or world, if outside the USA) do you live in?

There are many vendors out there offering a variety of performance and cosmetic upgrades to the 360.
Here is something that might interest you.

Thanks guys for he suggestions! Wow, I feel really stupid that I typed "spyder" and not "spider". I knew that and I still spelled it wrong. I didn't even notice it after I wrote it. Anyway, I'll definitely get some pictures up and fill out my profile. I just signed up today, but I'll try to do that pretty soon. All your suggestions seem really good, well almost all (what was up with that William?). I think I'll give the guys at http://competizionecars.com that wetpet suggested a call next week. From the looks of their site, they are all about Ferrari performance. I'll keep you guys posted on what I decide to do.

What will you be using the car for? Do you really need performance mods for it?

I know I'm going to take it out on a few tracks, but regardless I have a really tough time leaving any car I own stock! I just like that personalized feel. I'll probably do some exhaust mods to give it a distinct tone, but other than that I'm open to suggestions.

Don't worry, "the factory" themselves had it wrong for decades. They finally corrected with the 355 (348?), iirc.

Spider is an American English word, so "spider" is the correct spelling, it originally referred to a light fair-weather horse-drawn carriage: http://www.caaonline.com/caa_content.asp?PageType=Dept&Key=15&MCat=10

The German "spyder" spelling was popularized by James Dean dying in a Porsche 550 Spyder, why the Germans misspelled it escapes me.

Wiki, getting something half right as usual, claims the American spelling was adopted by an Italian industrial group in the 1920s, but the one citation in the entry is to an unreferenced Alfa Romeo fansite that gets so much so obviously wrong, so quickly ("Porsche 550 Spider", Osso de Seppia is "cuttlefish bone" - not merely cuttlefish, etc.) it's pointless, if not completely worthless (I enjoyed the Alfa Spider pictures).

And, finally, there simply is no "y" in the Italian alphabet. (Wiki's fansite reference claims a connection to Fascism for this; I'm not sure why.)
Some say the "spyder" spelling is correct because adopted foreign words can use non-native letters, but Spider is an American English word, not of German derivation.

I just wanted to let you guys know I finally started my upgrades. Today I was looking at the factory air filters and they seemed a bit dirty. Since I'm not the original owner, I was a bit unsure when they were changed. I went down to my local auto parts store and picked up some K&N filters. I was actually really surprised what a difference they made. I swear I can feel them and hear them. Anyway, I know it's not a big first upgrade, but it's a start. I also got approached by someone at Kinetix Racing for some high-flow cats. I'm going to be putting those on hopefully by next week and I'll post more info once I get a chance to dive the car around for a few days with them on. I might also take the car for a Dyno run, just to see what the difference over stock is with both the filters and cats. I'll let you guys know what happens!

Toggie, you're right (as usual), it's spelled Spider, not Spyder. Ferrari hasn't made a "Spyder" since the Daytona (unless you count the one-off Testarossa Spyder built by Pininfarina for Agnelli).

And, for prosperity, only the 360 coupe is referred to as a Modena; the Spiders are simply 360 Spiders. :)

That was my first thought as well. From what I can tell, 360s have more than enough power for safe onramp merges...

I think this is more a symptom of I Got a Ferrari Now How Can I Spend More Money on It Sydrome. We all had it at some point. ;)

Hey guys, what do you think???

I just received the High-flow cats in the mail yesterday from Kinetix Racing. They look really sweet! I was actually a bit overwhelmed when I opened the box. I didn't think they would be so nice since they were exhaust parts. I hope they still look nice on the car after they have been heated up!

Anyway, I was just pretty excited so I thought I would post some pictures for you guys to see. I'm going to have my mechanic friend over this week to help me put them on. I'll let you guys know how they sound and perform.
