Apparently the owner's manual for the Nissan GT-R has a page which advises owners not to waste their time ricing it out with wings, flares, and other rice, because it's already so damn perfect.

"Those who have imported a JDM GT-R to the United States will find this page in their owner's manual that warns in no uncertain terms against pulling a Paul Walker on their GT-R. Just leave the car be, folks. You can't do better than what Nissan already did, so don't try."

I think its funny when people try to "improve" on Porsche's engineering and end up spending lots of cash and end up with crap.
Apparently Nissan is trying to nip this in the bud. Good for them.

This is real and Nissan is very serious about it. When you buy a GTR, you buy an experience with the car. Nissan have dedicated technicians and locations for service. This car is not the overbuilt Japanese car of the 1990's. It is built to exacting tolerances that a ham fisted idiot would only destroy by tinkering with it. You can't even buy tires for this car from anyone but the dealer.

I don't know about the States, but here the European Union is working on a set of legislation that will completely ban ANY modification to a car. Any vehicle will have to stay absolutely conform to the homologation sheet, use ONLY manufacturer parts for repairs and have no modification whatsoever. I understand that Ireland has already adopted it.

Finished larger alloy wheels, extended wheelarches, lowered suspension, body kits, rear wings, front spliters, engine kits, rebore, engine mapping, different chips, engine swap, turbocharfing, etc, etc.... even an audio system different than the original will be banned!!!

Any modification will make the car ILLEGAL, make the Insurance VOID and the owner liable to prosecution!!

If that piece of legislation goes through, and there are good indications that it will, it will kill the tuning and customising industry completely. The legislators are anxious to pass the legislation to close a loophole in the next set of laws they have in mind: imposing limited performances on car manufacturers, through standard sealed ECUs.

I think NISSAN is only thinking ahead!

Doubtful that would happen. It would hurt to many companies, large and small.

I don't doubt that the communist republic of Europe would impose such an idea but doubtful that all members would sign off.

Oh God thats bad but is there a SEMA type organization in the EU ? I believe SEMA has lobbyists, and they get their members together to fight this kind of stuff here in the USA

So maybe it wont go through as soon as the "leaders" would like

So far, Germany that produces most of the luxury and large cars in Europe is the only country vehemently opposed to it, but most countries that have a car industry are all for it.

They want to reduce carbon emission to such a level that probably no car above 3000cc will be able to meet the requirements.

Then, they want to stop people modifying their vehicle to improve the performance.

Manufacturers have received a sweetener in the proposal: only original parts allowed. That will eliminate the competition on the lucrative parts market.

New EU members (Eastern Europe) that don't have a car industry, plus a few others (Portugal, Scandinavia) will be easily convinced. The future looks bleak!

You know, all this talk of carbon emissions, etc, I wonder if it will be seen just as ridiculous a hundred years from now as referring to black people as a lower order of evolution - which was fairly common in books of a hundred years ago. That said, I'd be pretty pissed about legislation like that. I like to have skinnier tires for rain, wider tires for dry. I'm safer being able to make the change with the seasons... Then there are things like weakspots hat almost every car has - that will show up years down the line. Unless the manufacturer releases a fix(doubtfull), you'd be royally stuck.

    See this thread?

Quite a lot of modified cars all through it. Its part of the fun, and I don't like this "no modifications" or "anti-rice". I doubt we'll ever see a natural thread of so many GTR pictures with that kind of attitude taken by the manufacturer.

Yet I read in a magazine that Nissan gave models to Trust and Top Secret to see what they would do with them. Odd.

^ Good point, but I also read that the car was impossible to tune because of the computer set-up. I'm sure it would respond to bolt-ons, but beyond that, I dont know how well it would work. I'll see if I can dig up the article..
