    Marc,
I saw it in Piancenza but I am not sure if the car came from there. It was in an event.

    Ciao!

This car was possibly the only Khamsin that was tuned with hotter cams and lighter pistons, flywheel and crank by the factory. The 1st owner was a celebrity from Berlin. He lives now in Munich, Germany. I contacted him last year about the car. He confirmed that the car was upgraded by the works in close collaboration with Guerino Bertocchi. Although the car got a special 2-tone interior, a detail that -to my knowledge!- only one other Khamsin has. This 2nd car is located in Switzerland and also in "Rosso Rubino" as #238 but with standart engine-specs!

When the 1st owner picked up his new car in the Factory he did a test-run, the engine blew up! #238 was transported back to Modena. After the engine was dismantled they found sand in it which was left from doing the casting!!!

The history of #238 is without any gap until today when the car is owned in fantastic original condition by a member of the German Maserati Club and still in its 1st paint!!!

In July 1978 it was featured in the German magazine "Motor Magazine" together with a Lamborghini Countach, a Ferrari 512 BB and a Porsche Turbo.
The 1st owner still recalls this photo-shoot high up in the Alps. In 1980 he sold #238 to a person who produced condoms!

    Ciao!

    Thanks Walter!

Very interesting: the Swiss club's website used to have a photo where you could see the interior of a Khamsin with red and I think white seats: the Karl Heinz Lange Maserati book shows I think that same car or this 238.

    Best regards,

    Marc

    Marc,
Lange`s book shows #238, the swiss website shows the visual sister-car #352. But that one doesn`t have the tuned engine. According to my knowledge this two cars are only with that 2-tone interior and in "Rosso Rubino".
The current owner negotiated #238 for 4 years until he got it. Only this one is T H E Khamsin to have!

    Ciao!
    Walter

This are the sad remains of #376. The car was owned by a friend of mine (F40, Daytona-Comp., 911 RS, 962, Countach, Ferrari Monza, etc.) and was in very good condition still unrestored and with its 1st. paint.
The car was stored in a garage here in Duesseldorf, Germany. 2 years ago the complete building suffered an explasion and burned down to the ashes. Non of the stored cars could be saved - incl. this Khamsin.

    Ciao!
    Walter

On a lighter note Walter, I believe I see your Merak SS subtly sitting behind that rubino russo Khamsin. Nice post Walter.

    Thanks everyone:

Yes it is fascinating to accumulate data and eventually you can figure out that mystery car x was number so and so because it all adds up etc etc.
I need to count how many cars I have but I must be north of 200.

Walter you had stated you had a much higher number on the yahoo thread several years ago: what is the exact figure you have? I will try to make up a total in a few days but it is important to distinguish mystery cars from cars with infor from cars we just know exost but about which we have no info.

Giotto: do you have info on that dark red one in the breakers yard you just posted?

    Thanks in advance,

    best regards,

    Marc

Yes I have been aware of his ebsite for years but nothing seems to be happening and to rebuild a Khamsin from scratch would cost..............:-(!

I found the photos on FLICKR... The cars are located behind the shop of a Maserati specialist in Great-Britain. There are also many Biturbo's.

Yes looks like the back of the BillMcGrath garage: here it is trying to copulate with a Merak that has had a rough haircut:)

Funny how you can sometimes identify cars based on very little info: the 2nd phto was taken in Berlin, it is almost certainly AM120US1146:how many white US Khamsins still with theuir US bumpers can there be in Berlin?! I was in touch with him in 2005, a car with some electrical and cosmetic issues. The internet is amazing sometimes!

I sat only one time in a Khamsin... At Monthlery in 1985. We had to go to the hotel but there were not enough cars. It's too long to explain... So my friend had 4 passengers in his 365 GTC/4 and there was a place for me in that Khamsin. I was trapped... on the rear seat!!! But since that day, I have the noise of that engine in my ears. What a noise! Not a V12, but really beautifull too. I like also the color.
Don't give me your bad look, Walter. I didn't note any serial number that day...
