From Motor Trend: Tesla sues Fisker ============= http://wot.motortrend.com/6244545/auto_news/tesla_sues_fisker/index.html "Tesla Motors has filed suit against Fisker Coachbuild and two of its employees in San Mateo Superior Court, claiming Fisker absconded with some of the electric sportscar company's design ideas and trade secrets. The two employees named in the suit are designer and chief Henrik Fisker and his chief operating officer, Bernhard Koehler. Fisker Karma" .. How is Tesla doing these days... do they really have to sue another company to make money? Is anyone going to sue Hennessey for the "Venom GT", since it looks like a CGT + Exige? ~shahedc . People are suing Hennessey just to get their cars returned to stock after he parted his customers cars out.
Seeing the Fisker in the magazine photos does it even more justice! Especially from the side! Hopefully we see them out soon.
nothing against Tesla... just wondering how they were doing, that's all. Note that I never said that they shouldn't protect their IP. Of course they should, if they choose to. But some companies are too busy with what they do, and stay away from lawsuits altogether. People and companies will always continue to learn from each other, and sometimes maybe a little too much, in this case. Where do you draw the line? If no one copied anything, we would have only 1 choice of product from 1 company. Smart companies will find a way to settle with other "copycat" companies, so they can continue to excel with their original product line. Sometimes the original is still the best, sometimes the copy wins out in the market. I wish Tesla all the success they deserve, but I also hope that they can welcome competition! ~shahedc .
I believe the story goes that Tesla is coming out with a 4 door sedan and originally hired Fisker to design it. After they scrapped the collaboration and went on another design path for their upcoming 4 door... Fisker goes off and comes up with a Hybrid sedan of his own shortly after. Coincidence? Again, all of this is heresay, but that is what I have read.
Tesla's founder Elon Musk (Paypal) has very deep pockets and along with his investors (Technology Partners and Capricorn Investment Group) he is doing extremely well as far as I know.
yep, I've been following their history since they began. I was asking more about future profitability. I hope the sedan does well, and paves the way for future electric vehicles. ~shahedc . p.s. this reminds me of the origin of the Playstation... Nintendo was working with Sony to build a CD-based game system, and things didn't work out. Then Sony came out with the Playstation on their own... I didn't see Nintendo trying to sue them, and then Sony had huge successes with their Playstation, PS2 and now, the PS3 is on its way up. Nintendo did suffer loss of market share for many years, but just reinvented themselves with the Wii, and are doing well again. Of course, game systems are cheaper than cars.
and now, there seems to be another lawsuit.. but _against_ Tesla this time.. they can't seem to catch a break! From LLN Magna files lawsuit against Tesla Motors ================================= http://www.leftlanenews.com/magna-files-lawsuit-against-tesla-motors.html "Just yesterday we reported that Tesla Motors has filed a lawsuit against Fisker Coachbuild, but now comes word that Tesla could be in some legal trouble of its own. Magna a transmission maker has filed a suit against Tesla for money it says the electric carmaker still owes it." ~shahedc .
