Just bought an 83 Mondial. The manual that came with the car seems to be for the sedan, and does not discuss how to lower the top. I understand that it can be tricky. Does anyone have a manual that has the instructions and how I might get a copy? Thank you.

I had the same problem when I bought mine.

The search function will turn up instructions.

I saved a PM sent to me by a fellow Fchatter.
I will try to forward you these via PM.

    Cheers

I find the hardest part is closing the latches. I can lower the top and attach the boot in minutes, but closing the latches is a bear. Standing outside of the car I use the heel of my hand on top to push down and forward while I close the latch with my other hand. I do not believe it can be done from inside the car.

    Enjoy,
    Dave

Once again, use the search function.

    Those latches WILL eventually break.

Replacement latches from Ferrari cost approx $450.

However, a fellow Fchatter (ronfrohock) has made a great (unbreakable) replacement for about $80.

I don't know if he is still offering them.
You can PM him to find out.

I highly recommend getting a pair, even if yours have not broken yet.

    Cheers

Have tried searches in this forum and others. No luck. Hope I'm responding correctly. I'm old (65) so please cut me some slack. I'm afraid I have to ask, what's a "PM". I'm also having trouble with the "texting type" lingo. Oh well....

I have the same problem with my Alfa. Generally, I lower it in the Spring and don't raise until the Fall. Then I park it in the sun or heat the inside with a space heater to soften the top. I don't suppose you have a copy of the top operation instructions?

The latches are hard, but the previous owner offered me this trick:

The back of the latches have an adjusting nut that varies their tension. Before trying to latch the top, back them all the way off-they have thumbscrews. Once the latches are attached, alternately undo them and tighten the adjustment screws, this will walk the top forward relying on the tension of the fastened latch to make th other one easier.

For me, the hardest part is getting the tonneau cover on. Good luck with that, I think all it takes is sheer force, although again I have a careful list of which connections to make first. Let me know if you want that, I've got it memorized but would have to ponder it a bit to put it in writing.

I am careful about leaving the top down for extended times, I understand that either the top can shrink in that time or the rear window get permanent creases.

    Mondials are great though, enjoy!

Thanks Max4HD for your kind words.
I still am offering the latches. I have aboout one dozen pair remaining.

As for closing the roof, I have my wife or one of my kids push on the "B" piller from outside of the car while I line up and then latch the roof shut. I do recommend adjusting the nut on the assembly as the roof shrinks over time. It is also important to keep the gasket at the top of the windshield conditioned. I use Mothers Back to Black and it seems to work well.

I usually dont close the roof. I either cover the car roof down or use the partial cover that came with the car. I understand a fellow Mondial owner and FChatter is offering a Spider Top. This would be worth looking at. Does anyone have one?

    Thanks
    - Ron Frohock

I just spent a bunch of time looking for the post that was out there about 1 year ago that discussed in detail how to raise and lower the roof. I read it and found it to be extreemly helpful. I cant find it now.......

A big thanks to Ron for his acknowledgement of my "Spider Top". As for stuff that makes living with a Mondial convertible top "manageable", Ron's top toggle upgrade make nothing but sense. I have a pair of them awaiting the big day - - when I upgrade Maranello's work. But gang, it's also important to remember that a bit of "exercise" is in order. Example ------- you stay in bed for a week ------------ then jump out of that bed and run downstairs to make the morning coffee----------. yeah, tell me you don't feel like a piece of plywood for the first 10 minutes.

Even if you have Ron's TOGGLES and Hank's SPIDER TOP, keep your top exercised :)

Summer is almost here - cheers,

    Hank Garfield

Also it is very good practice to exercise the rear windows weekly,or you might have to replace them, sooner than later.

Does anybody drive without the boot on while the top is down? I mean, driving at 60 mph max. I can get the top down in a few minutes, but the boot takes for ever to put on!

BTW, to avoid breaking the latches, I go outside the car and pull on the bars of the frame forward. It avoids any stress on the latches, they just clip on.
