Jon, I think that this is more better even if it is not factory. I did some editing. My car is very close to bleu sera, evening blue. There was also a midnight blue and moonlight blue for different years of production. All metalic and all very close as far as I could tell. Keeping the color dark with the metalic pigment gives a great combo with most anything. A lighter color that is very unusual yet was stock was a very light blue/green metalic. It shimmered as the eye tried to figure what color it was trying to be. There was an Indonesian (I believe) car pictured here sometime in the past year. Maybe someone remembers it better and can find it. This is the way to show and catalog the colors. Maybe add the year. Great job. John Image Unavailable, Please Login
the pictures aren't great, but they show the differences in different aged paint books. the verde pino and verde medio are from a 60's and late 70's book and almost identical. the verde scuro is from a late 70's/early 80's book moss green = verde medio green = verde pino (not as dark as it looks in the photo - it's a metallic evergreen) dark green = verde scuro (metallic hunter green - MUCH darker than verde green)
Excuse me, but this one is Blue Dino Met. 106-A-72 for sure. In the late 70ties Ferrari named a similar color Blue Chiaro. Blue Chiaro 106-A-38 is a very light green with a touch of turqoise.
I know that but it is wrong, believe me. Name of color was changed from Blue Dino to Blue Chiaro, color itself changed only a little bit. Early Blue Chiaro (246) and late Blue Chiaro (308) have nothing in common. Blue Chiaro 106-A-38 is a light green going to turkoise. So says my Scaglietti color card and that was the color I found on my #06718: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can you scan your color card. I'm trying to do the best I can identifying all the colors from a multitude of sources. Also lighting has a big effect on the color. If you find a pic that you think is Bleu Chiaro please post it.
Again, this color is Blue Dino 106-A-72. Look at my pic to see what Blue Chiaro in the time of a 246 is. My color card is at the paint shop right now ( to find out the correct Nocciola Met. ;-) ) but I'll make pics soon to proove what I've said. You've got the pics of my GT which is Blue Dino Met.. It is similar to car 03890. I've to look only a few meters to see my car in the garage and truely it is Blue Dino Met..
In searching I have found no 246's in the following colors including the Dino Register Avorio Safari Azzurro Cielo Bleu Montecarlo Prugna Although the Dino Register lists these colors I have found none in their database of serial numbers that list any of those colors. I would assume none were done in these colors unless anybody knows differently.
Ferrari Dino 246 GT 1973 M £ Side Rear Interior Interior 2 Blue chiaro with tan leather upholstery, only 31,000 miles from new. Extensive restoration work carried out in 1980, further restoration work and major servicing at 27,000 miles in1999 by Nick Cartwright totalling sum £7400. Lovely example! Once again, this color is origninal Blue Dino Met. 106-A-72 for 246, later on a very similar color was called Blue Chiaro but this Blue Chiaro had nothing to do with that Blue Chiaro 106-A-38 which was used for 246. Wrong restoration or the owner didn't care about originality.
I'm not arguing, but I've now posted 2 pics that were on the Dino register and now another one from an original owner. My roomate in college also had one this color. You need to post a picture of what you think it is and then we'll get a consensus.
My Dino 246GT #06718 is stated as Blue Chiaro 106-A-38, certified by Ferrari Classiche. We found that light Green during restoration at a lot of hidden places (see example I posted earlier). Original Scaglietti color card prooves this color we found as Blue Chiaro 106-A-38. The other cars are Blue-Dino 106-A-72 in my mind or they got wrong color during restoration (later Blue Chiaro as it was used on the 308 cars). Color manufacturers mostly have only one "Blue Chiaro Ferrari", even the later one. They don't have the early one which was used only a couple of years and which truely was not successfull because the color is a little bit ugly. As I bought my car it was Dino Red (you see it on the pic). I asked Ferrari for the original color and they stated Blue Chiaro 106-A-38. I asked my paint shop and they showed me a Blue Chiaro, a nice blue. So I was very happy because of that very nice original color. During the restoration I got a telephone call: "Hey, your car was not blue but green!" They had removed windows, door panels, dashbord and so on and found - green. The following time we found out what I told you before. At least I decided to make the car Blue Dino 106-A-72. Maybe other owners of a original Blue Chiaro 106-A-38 cars didn't care about that or the paint shop made the same mistake as mine. At least: I think lot of color informations at the Dino Register are not correct because all state on the information given by the owners. Look at car #07594: All information at the register states the car as Burgundy or as Rosso Rubino, no word about Rosso Dino Bordeaux but Bordeaux is the original color, stated by Ferrari last week. And the car is painted in the original color.
Thanks for the info, now lets find a picture. Surely somebody out there has a pic of Bleu Chiaro. I'm not saying any of my colors are correct, just trying to find a starting point so we all have a reference. I'm glad to change any of them if they're wrong.
I'd never seen a Dino in that "original" Blue Chiaro 106-A-38 (even a pic) and if you see the color you know why ;-) Search for a Dino in Giallo Senape you will find one or two. Look at Verde Germoglio: worldwide there's one GTS known, a GT was turned back to this color last year in Germany, great to see. In my mind it is good to have held that cars in original colors or recolor them because they show the time of the 70ties and the wide spread of colors. It's a pitty that most of them were turned to red or yellow.
I may have found it. Check this link out and let me know.http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/1011/ferraricolorchartyz4.jpg
