I started this thread to post any questions on photography. I'm not sure if many people here have questions but being new to it I always have a ton.

    First one:
I know how to put together a 360 degree pic but how do you make the 360 with up and down views like the one in the link?

It most likely uses quicktime player to view it, I know they use a special camera that captures all of it and then pieces it together either automatically or using something like photoshop.

I never looked into what ipix was before reading this post, but it looks like 3D immersive effect is done completely by the software - and conceptually, its a pretty simple idea.

You can use any panorama rig on your tripod and a 8mm fisheye lens to capture the images to stitch together. The hardware part of the ipix package doesn't seem to be anything special either. I especially like the panorama rigs made by reallyrightstuff.com. It's more multipurpose than the ipix stuff since it is part of their entire system of arca swiss compatible equipment.

The key to panorama shooting is to position the optical center of the lens at the point of rotation. This allows you to stitch the images together seamlessly. ReallyRightStuff has a good simple tutorial here:

There are a lot of similar software packages you can find via a simple google search. You don't need to buy ipix to make something similar to this.
