I unfortunately blew the tranny last year on my 355 f1. I blew it so bad that the gear box was shot too. Not only were the gears blown but the housing was all damaged too. I have been in the search for almost a year for a used gearbox for a 1999 f1. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks

There are several online Ferrari parts recyclers. You telling me you cannot find one?

    http://www.ferrariservice.com/

    http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/

    http://www.ferrparts.com/

    http://www.trutlands.com/

    http://www.automotix.net/partshotline-ferrari-f355_f1-requests.html ( I see one listed here)

    http://www.italianauto.com/

    http://www.ncferrari.com/

I did this with 2 minutes of effort off google....and even if none of these presently have a transmission, you could leave your name with them in case they come across one.

If it's possible. God meant Ferraris to be shifted by hand, not microchip. (I think the Pope said that in his sermon at Yankee Stadium tonight.) You are missing so much joy!

Yes, we don't need that fancy pants new fangled stuff! I mean just how does it work??? Tear out the ABS too, no damn computer controlling my brake pedal. And that starter motor? HA, for sissies I say! Give me a good 'ole fashioned hand crank like they used to be! Don't even get me started on that plastic hood, whatever happened to STEEL??

    :D :D :D

What you guys need to do is get some robot hands like they have in labs that you operate remotely by servos, so when you have the chance to spend some quality time with a beautiful woman you will have all the modern advantages and can handle her by proxy. I'm sure the ladies will appreciate the .2 sec (or whatever) delay between the flesh and the steel.

ABS, suspension improvements, all that stuff is great... it ADDS to the experience (and safety), rather than SUBTRACTS.

Paddles are for canoes. But to each his own...

Is that even possible? I seem to recall one of these F1 vs. 3-pedal threads where several dealership/indy mechanics said that in all their years of working on Ferraris, they've never had to replace a transmission in a 355F1. Clutches, relays, etc, yes, Transmission itself, no. How'd you break it? or is this an F1-sucks trolling attempt?

Just for information the F1 uses the same gearbox as a conventional shifting box. This is true for the 355, 360 and 430 up to the Scuderia in which there are some internal changes.

    That's beautiful!

And it means that you value the core at $2k.

Get one in anytime soon and I'll pay you $2.5k plus shipping so that I can rebuild it to have a spare. Ditto if you get a blown up 348 tranny.

Maybe if I was on crack. I can get more just by selling the individual internals :).

So the same would hold true for anyone exchanging a blown tranny with you for a new one, yes?

They'd be better off parting out their blown tranny than sending you the core, per your above.

The gearboxes I have (TR, Mondial, 355) are not new. They are either rebuilt or used ones that came out of running cars. If they were new you could add at least another 10K :)

    Of course.

    Working gearbox $10.5k
Working gearbox $10.5k minus $2k core credit means $8.5k cost.
    New gearbox means $18.5k cost
