I was at a body shop today in Northridge checking on the progress of a paint job I'm getting on the Triumph. Out the window I spot a flatbed pulling in with a beautiful Rosso Corsa 599. I can't beleive my eyes, as this is not a body shop that's quite up to Ferrari standards.

So, I head out, and walk around the car, still on the back of the flatbed. I see they're unloading another car, a mundane sedan, that's been pulled behind. I ask the tow truck driver what's wrong with the 599, and he says he just repo'd it.

Talkative guy, he goes on to mention that it was owned by a car dealer (not Ferrari) who couldn't make payments on it anymore. The car had San Diego Ferrari plate frames, and the tow truck was from Lancaster.

I didn't ask where it was headed, but if a slightly used, red 599 turns up all of a sudden for sale, you know some of the history behind it :)

What payments would a dealer have other than the temporary financing they get from banks? Unless the dealer owner was driving it around...?

Well it does have normal plates, so they probably were driving it around.

Dealers all have to pay a flooring cost, usually 5% of the cost of the car per month. Independent dealers & wholesalers may have to pay way more. If he bought that car for 100+ over sticker and was trying to flip it for a quick profit but missed the boat, we can all figure out what his payments are. OUCH !!

I don't know the car or the real story. I do think it might have been wise to photoshop the lic plate # as now we are taking a story and making it "so" by public display. There might or might not be a reason for this car on a towtruck but if it were yours would you want this?

Just my 2c, no offence to anyone just making a point.

Which is why I talked with the driver of the truck, TO GET THE REAL STORY.

Anyone can see plates on any car, at any time. They're not restricted, or "unlisted", or any nonsense like that. Just trying to get the info out there for any future buyer not to be scammed by a third party. I wasn't able to get the serial number, so that plate is the only identifying feature of an otherwise common colored Ferrari.

Buyer beware. You'd want to know the back story on any potential car you might be in the market for, no?

It would seem that that dealer that owned the car got caught in the economy "down draught." Can't be a good sign for the future of the dealer as the banks are now stepping in.

Yes, and 599 owners always leave the car parked on the street in front of their apartment.

The car belongs to current Chevy car dealer owner. It was not a repo. I personally called the towing company with the number showing on the tow truck. The driver CONFIRMED IT WAS NOT A REPO. He did say it belonged to (OOOOOO) Chevrolet owner's car. He laughed when I mentioned the word REPO.

I don't usually respond on these types of remarks... I hope you know what defamation of character means...

And you believed him? He was just cleaning things up for a call from someone he didn't know.

And who's character was defamed? Were any names mentioned? Who's gullible now? :(
