So what do you guys think? Is Marco ready for F-1 ?? http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/080423085941.shtml Rubens Barrichello has received an offer to see out his long motor racing career in America, according to reports. The German newspaper Bild claims the 35-year-old, who next month will set a new benchmark as the longest serving grand prix driver in history, has been asked to run with the Andretti-Green IndyCar team in 2009. Barrichello's current contract with the F1 team Honda, owned by the Japanese marque that also equips Andretti-Green and the series - with engines, runs out at the end of 2008. Bild raises the possibility of a seat 'swap'; Barrichello to IRL in exchange for Andretti-Green's Marco Andretti, the 21-year-old American son of former McLaren driver Michael Andretti, whose own father Mario won the world championship in 1978. Reportedly, the American broadcaster Speed TV cited Barrichello as confirming the offer. Marco Andretti has already collected about 900 kilometres of testing in a Honda F1 car.
I wonder how big a check grandpa Andretti will have to write to Honda for Marco to go place race driver
I believe Rubens has a place in Key Biscayne (Miami), so this would be a good place for a family man to finish his career. Friends Kanaan, Helio CN, JPM, all have homes in the area, Latin party every weekend!! I have to believe that Rubens is better than Marco at this point, so publicity and the American audience for Honda has much to do with this. I wouldn't doubt that Rubens had something to initiate this swap, timing just after the IRL/Champ Car merger. Marco has had some brilliance and then some boners, so his F1 performance will be, uh, interesting. This makes sense, for Rubens.
Grandpa doesn't pay a dime. It's Daddy that has the relationship with Honda and i'm sure he doesn't pay either. Also don't count the kid out, if anyone watched him going into turn one at Sebring flat when no one else dared, you couldn't help but to be a bit impressed. He'd do rather well if given a decent shot.
Michael was not Mario in the driving department but Marco is fearless and has talent. This is a great move by Honda on both sides of the pond... I can see Ross Brawn smiling now! BTW, Marco and Rubens are pretty good buddies according to the article about Marco that I read recently...
The kid has some talent, to be sure. I hope he gets the ride, but hopefully, the Honda will be better, because it's essentially a third tier car now. I know the old man (Honda) would be turning over in his grave if he saw the results, he would never have tolerated this, people would have been fired, and sooner or later the team would have won a championship. I happened to be standing next to daddy when macro went into that turn at sebring. And everyone brakes before turn 1 at Sebring otherwise turn 2 is the end of your race.
Flat out thur turn one with out breaking for turn 1! I don't think so. Maybe on his Hot Wheels track. He is beginning to believe his own BS
I was standing there just like you were, he did seem faster than anyone else in that corner. I also hear the speed announce team saying that he was flat through turn one. Without seeing the telemetry from the car it would be impossible to know for sure, but with eveidence like that around why lie? He was quickest in the P2 class and under a second slower than the Peugeot during the test session.
Disagree. Graham's goal is F-1. IMO if he does well this year expect him to be testing with BMW by year's end . Graham is a Formula BMW USA graduate and daddy is running the BMW M3 in ALMS. Hope to see both Marco and Graham in F-1 soon.
Since JV and Montoya left F1 a void has been created perfect for Marco. I'm sure he will show the Andretti Spirit when he gets in front of the cameras.
I disagree. Marco hasn't shown me anything in the IRL so far at all, maybe if he goes in and is not expected to provide anything, just learn and work on his skills then 3-4 years from now he'll be ok, but at this point I do not see him running with the best.
There are a lot of guys in F1 who haven't shown me anything either. How many guys run at the front, a handful at most.

Wonder how Fernendo will handle having a woman on his team. We already saw what happened when he had a rookie on his team. A woman rookie, don't think that will fly with Fernando.
Flav probably wants to do the same deal he had with Giovanna Amati a few years ago......... http://www.f1rejects.com/drivers/amati/biography.html
