Who knows a good (mean) divorce lawyer in NewO?

Here is the problem.

I served in Iraq with a girl and we had a good, "lets get coffee and BS" working relationship. She came back two months after I did and found all her stuff in a storage thing and kicked out of her home by her husband. And served with divorce paperwork.

In the past two weeks he has been playing dirty and, though I am not an attorney, it seems as if he is trying to intimidate her into a settlement where by she is at fault.

Bottom line, she is not from Louisiana and he is and his cousin is representing him. So she needs a good attorney that she can talk to and can help her before she looses her mind. Right now her only real option is the yellow pages to find one. Some here must know who a good group is that she can talk to.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I'd say our FFQC host, Mr. John Houghtaling, III might be contacted for a referral, unless he's already on that side of the table! LOL!

I have no idea of his specialty, but he'll sort you out....it's a big small town down there, everyone knows everyone.

I'd go on to say "mean " is the wrong attitude...split the bills,... liquidate the joint assets, watch Easy Rider, and leave town travelling light.....anything else is just burdensome emotional baggae, best toss that knapsack off the bridge.......like Robert Earl Keen in "Corpus Christi Bay".........

 

And that is what I say! But he is being mean and I think she may need someone just as mean. Fight evil with evil as it were.

She is a size 3 as she is a Marine and a crack athlete. So when she was getting some of the stuff he did not pack away, she found alot of size 1 and 0 undies and things in the house. That sent her over the edge I think.

I have heard that when some guys are getting a divorce they will call him and ask for representation, just so Dave can turn them down and not be able to represent their ex-wife.

One side will always count on the other to become emotional in hopes that their generosity and cooperation will somehow translate into reconciliation but guess what......IT NEVER HAPPENS!!!

I agree with Bigtex. I do divorces in Houston and really see waay too much "cost" put into a divorce--and it's all emotional.

Having said that, to find a good divorce lawyer you will need to go to a local law school and get recent CLE materials for divorces. Look up the name of a CLE contributer to that set of materials and ask him to represent you. He would not have been asked to do a CLE unless he had a great reputation. IMO. Any other search method makes you subject to marketing.

In order to keep your Louisiana Bar Association license, you have to complete a certain amount of CLE courses every year.

 

I've heard that about lots of attorneys since Tony Soprano used that tactic.

Please don't take this the wrong way... I understand that this woman is your close friend, and you want to help her out if you can. Your heart is in the right place, and your intentions are good in that regard.

But, I'm going to give you some of the best advice you'll ever get in your life ----
Stay out of this situation. Getting involved with such things tends to have a way of backfiring and causing the "supportive friend" a great deal of grief.
