How could a CARFAX search for an '82 308 turn up NO records? I'm interested in a very low mileage 308 and when you search the VIN Carfax identifies it as an ''82 308 but claims it doesn't have any reocrds??

    VIN: ZFFAA02AXC0041491
    Vehicle: 1982 FERRARI 308GTSI
Records: CARFAX did not find any records on this 1982 FERRARI 308GTSI.

    Is this a common occurrence?

I think it can be pretty common on older cars, especially if the title has not changed hands in many years and there have been no insurance claims or emission tests. O/w, I'd be scratching my head.

CARFAX isn't something I use. If you buy that car, wreck it and don't report the crash to Carfax, then they won't know about it and the record for the car will still be clean. They "say" they have many sources for info but it's a scheme.

its probably because most fcar owners dont even drive their cars so they cant get into accidents so hence no carfax reports!

Carfax is probably more useful for newer cars. Motor vehicle records are just a lot better now, and online.

When you go back 26 years or more, most dealers won't even represent the odometer as accurate.

I wouldn't rule out an '82 with no records. Just get it inspected -- frame, underside, body panel gaps, etc. If it was repaired improperly, you'll almost always know.
