+1 I have flown into Marina a couple of times to attend past Monterey events. It really is just your typical scruffy small airport and, IMO, not a good venue for a car show. Needless to say, I plan to pass on Monterey this year...
I think he has a beef with me too! comes on and wants to do spell check with me and then leaves, with only 4 post I say he's working for the C.I.
Just be aware the event has moved to Marina Airport. This was just officially announced and not much info on the website. Also, FYI, The Quail event is already sold out.
Well, I drove my 288 GTO up there and it liked it just fine. I, on the other hand, liked the view, but I was wondering where the grub was? (There was one small place.) There really is nothing there, other than a few housing developments that were stopped after the housing market crashed. A wonderful reminder of the stark economic times. The actual airport area has a few machine shops and nothing else. I could have shot cannons up there and I don't think anyone would have noticed. I don't think people will find it quite so convenient as Black Horse, or when it was at Quail. But, hey, maybe we can have drag races on the runway or something. Steve
It is the cars and the people that make the event, not the venue. Hopefully they will have enough vendors and food booths to make it work
I'll give you the name of a place in Salinas that has good food, cold beer, soft chairs, is air conditioned and for the cost of admission to CI, you can see about 20 of those $5 at a time.
First there is no such thing as good (Italian) food in California. Mexican yes, Italian.........fuhgetaboutit!
No, I'm not. You'll find better Italian food at any old corner pizza shop in the Northeast than in California. It's like eating at a Giant Olive Garden, just because you have all the right ingredients doesn't guarantee a good result. Try a Trattoria in NY, Philadelphia, Baltimore etc sometime. Hint they all smell like you live in Gilroy, there are 5 guys at the corner table playing cards smoking cigars, and they only take cash.
Obviously, you have never been to CI. It is not known for its fine food. A salami sandwich on white bread is cuisine at the concessions stands at CI. Those in the know bring a picnic basket and folding chairs. Unfortunately, the ambiance of a shady spot of grass will not be available at the Marina Airport. Obviously, you have never been to any places in San Francisco off of Fisherman's Wharf. Next time you visit, step off of the cable car and go into the neighborhoods. You will find them every bit as authentic as those in the east, except we prefer our Italian food without ashes.
Sorry: I am Italian. My family has owned and still owns Italian Rest. and we have been in CA for about 100+ years. Ya' gotta explore more. Here is one in the family, my step brother, [although they are Swiss Italian--we, from Lucca/Tuscany] has good food: http://www.swisshotelsonoma.com/ Try this one around the corner: http://www.dellasantinas.com/ his and our family go way back and he is a fine chef...and his food!!!! [sorry bro] I LOVE. can give more examples, but try these first.
Been going to CI and the Monterey Weekend annually for over 20 years. Done the SF bit many times as well, (Great for Chinese food). But the Italian isn't even close, (with or without ashes). When you order burro e panna (Alfredo), the pasta shouldn't look like its a bowl of cereal covered with non fat milk. There are some things that are great in California, unfortunately Italian food isn't one of them.
Spent part my Honeymoon touring (timed with Monterey weekend of course) Sonoma County, (good wine). Don't believe we stopped at your family's restaurant, but we spent about a week in the area. After years of traveling through California, you'd think I'd just learned not to order Italian, every time I do it's a disappointment.
well, here's to your quest...............me I still remember our first with bread sticks and all, and you ate whatever the family was having....brought the bowls out and you dug in: salad, soup, one ONE dish... might even be the same dish the next day.... but, that was over 50 years ago...that charm went out when we went from a wood burning stove to store bought gas.
There's good italian in california, just don't expect to find it everywhere. there's even great sicilian, on par with anything i've had in sicily. SF has italian like it's mean tot be. so does la.
Would you go to Kansas City for lobster? Or how about visiting Maine to have a steak? Would you go to Cleveland.........................errrrr Why would you go to Cleveland period?
We have an Italian food war going on. No two Italians can ever agree on which Italian restaurant has the best food. This is an argument that will go on for centuries!!!!
I hear they have the best pepperoni pizza by the slice at the Marina Airport. I understand they import the pizza from the East (where the best Italian food is found, not in Italy or California)....specially made by Geno's, I think? The cheese stays bubbling hot all day long with a state-of-the-art heat lamp....right next to the self-serve popcorn machine. CI at the Marina Airport is going to be a feast for the senses!
ok, now you went off track: why go to joisy for italian, why not Italy..... ....UNLESS one of them has no hands Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No hands is not an agreement, it just means they cannot talk. The only reason to go to Cleveland would be for the Rock n Roll museum!!!
LMAO +1 The heck with the Drink and Smoke section, there should be an Italian food section for real debate. There are plenty of Italians that own great Italian restaurants in California. East coast Italian restaurants think they are making original Italian food, but when you travel through Italy you find out that Italian food is very diverse and very different than what is served in the east .
