Still not as bad as Pizzonia flipping the Jag road car while driving the journalist around. Pretty funny.
Just looks like he left it in 2nd while trying to be in 1st or something. Looks like it to me because the car is off throttle but still moving from the torque of the engine. Or 1st instead of Neutral, etc. Its not like he stepped on the gas, and did a donut into a wall of people. While yes it is embarrassing, its no that bad.
Haha I remember the press release saying he lost the front wing from doing donughts at least now we know why.
It's stupid having F1 cars do that anyways, it's completely the opposite of what they were designed to do. If I wanted to see that, I'd go watch a drifting event or something. I'll watch F1 cars during the Grand Prix, thank you very much.
Actually Theissen was pretty cool about it and said now they'll auction off the wing internally for the employees of BMW. No big deal. The support this created goes a long way.
Depends on how you calculate it. The people who make the wings are already employed by BMW, so their labor is "free". They already got the tools/autoclave, so it's down to material cost, which is a couple grants at most. Back in the early nineties a front wing was about 20k if custom made. But that was for a part that no longer exists. I'm sure the BMW team has plenty of spare front wings (and other parts). Would be a different story altogether if this had happened to a vintage F1 car. Kinda like what Alex Yoong did to the Lotus in Monaco.
Talk about making a big deal about nothing. That Pizza moment is still the funniest cause he rolled the car, this was just hitting a high kerb.
