Picked up Jake Long, Philip Merling and Chad Henne. Looks like an excellent first day, but plenty of holes to fill.

Interesting they picked up another QB already, doesn't seem like they are giving John Beck any backing.

BTW Did anyone see the contract numbers for Jake Long, 5 years 57.5 million. They are paying a kid with no pro football experience 11.5 million dollars a year, thats F-ed up.

Beck was horrible last year. McCown was ok but the Dolphins need a 7-10 year guy and the last big Michigan QB turned out to be OK.

The entire team was pretty horrible no offense (no pun intended :D). Drafting Ted Ginn Jr. last year also wasn't the greatest decision either, but the jury is still out on him.

The last big BYU QB also turned out to do pretty well also.

Recent #1 picks got similar contracts. Vince Young got a $58 million dollar contract. Jake Long is a freakin animal, he will do well. Henne is over rated. He's a NFL backup QB at best. He's another Matt Leinart and John David Booty (who's still sittng on the bench after 2 rounds).

    Booty gets picked #137.

    LOLOL

And the media would not shut up for two seconds about how great he was for the past two years. So much for the "2007 Heisman front runner". He's just another in a long list of over rated USC Trojans who will be an NFL bust like the rest.

The problem with paying these untested guys so much is that if you don't, someone else will.

I was PRAYING SD would take Eli and sit him, but you just can't waste a draft pick and get nothing while other teams do.
What ALL these teams need to do - in ALL sports - is 'pay for performance'.

You pay a guy X dollars - for the sake of argument let's say 3 million a year, but you pile on the incentives, and EVERY position
is graded so you know if a guy misses a block, a route, drops a pass, throws an untipped pick, fumbles, draws a penalty.

You can load it up to where a guy might make 11-12 mill a year, but the reason most of these teams say they have money problems ? All they need to do is get together and fix them.
And if a guy doesn't think 3 mill plus incentives is enough, there will be other guys that think it IS enough.
And if a guy signs for 3 mill and gets injured and cannot play anymore, have an annuity on them or a lump sum payout of 1 or 2 mill more, OR medical insurance 'for life'.

That's a lot more than any of us ever got at age 22-23.

    Game too violent ?
One wrong turn can end your career ?
YOU chose the sport, s--- happens.
    Welcome to the real world.

He is already the top payed offensive lineman in the league, it doesn't matter if its Tony Romo you don't give a rookie that much money. If they weren't afraid of character issues before, they should be now with a young kid with that much money.

For that money, you can 2 or 3 PRO BOWL offensive linemen from the Cowboys, not some kid.

He's OK. Not great. Another overhyped USC player in a long line of them. For someone who is healthy and was a Heisman contender who the media would not shut up about, going in the 5th round and almost getting passed over for Dennis Dixon is downright embarrassing. And Dennis Dixon has a bad wheel.

Booty will be another 2nd or 3rd stringer for his entire NFL career like Leinart.

The streak of years with a first round pick continues (at 14) for the Hurricanes (just barely)! Started in 1994 or 1995 with Warren Sapp picked #12 overall. I find it hard to believe we had no first rounders the year prior, we were loaded back then.
Next year we will struggle to get someone selected in the first round (again) unless someone steps up big time.
The dolfins will defintely do better with Parcells leading the charge. We have been on a steady decline since Shula left. Last year we really sucked!
    time for an "Intervention".
