A picture thread for everyone who didn't make the deadline for the "CLEANEST 348 Online Car Show 2008"
This is for the rest of us, the ones who don't have perfect drivers side bolsters. Well its also for all of us who couldn't get are ass in gear and take pictures before the deadline....
Anyway I went to the Mille Miglia start this Sunday in San Francisco, and was able to snap some pictures of the 348. I was able to also take some pictures of the Mille Miglia show, these were all with a point and shoot they are nothing fancy but thought you guys might enjoy them.

Thanks, I cant claim to be the first to take that picture. I saw a couple of them here on Fchat and wanted to give it a try, I am very pleased with how it came out. Of all the pictures it is my favorite but I must confess I did do some color correction and cropping in photoshop...

Thank you, believe it or not it truly is not all that clean because I had two quarts over the maximum oil level! It was seeping out of the filler cap and evaporating/burning, subsequently sticking to the whole engine bay!
I cleaned the engine with DAWN dish washing soap! I was looking around the garage for something gentle enough to use and was too scared to put any of the harsh products I had on the delicate engine. I decided it was the safest product and I must say it really got the job done quite well!
Now here is the weirdest part, I haven't touched the oil since I got the car and when I bought it the oil level was perfect (checked not by me, but by and experienced well regarded Ferrari mechanic, the car was hot). It did not overflow or seep out of the cap until about six months after I purchased it..... Still don't have any idea what happened.

--In other news, 355 owners have finally found a solution to removing the gel from their hair!! Thats right "EASY OFF OVEN CLEANER" has done it again!--

I've been thinking about doing some cleaning around the engine bay, and was wondering what to use. With the dishwashing liquid, did you dilute it in water? Did you rinse it off, or just wipe it down?

A while back, I did a little bit of cleaning with Simple Green, but man did it stink when the engine got hot.

The dawn didn't leave any vapors once I drove it! That actually was my main concern. I diluted it in water, but certainly used a healthy amount. I used a very soft cloth, (flannel bed sheets, they were next to the dawn which was on my washing machine) I wiped the engine and headers down. Then to make sure I wouldn't leave any soap to dry and stain the finishes, I soaked up some fresh water with a piece of the bed sheets and squeezed it out, allowing it to drip over the vale covers (rinse and repeat multiple times)
I also removed the intake hoses and washed them with dawn, then left them out in the sun to dry.
I really could have done a much better job!
But I think the main points to make sure you shine up are:
    1) The Intake pipes going from the air box to the plenum!
    2) The red crackle paint, this is VERY DELICATE!! be very careful when wiping in down! I would NOT wipe around the Ferrari lettering or the edges, just rinse(with dawn/water, soak it up in a rag and ring it out). I learned the hard way, flaking off some of the paint! Its a bad feeling.
    3) The spark plug wires, makes sure they are clean and black, they add a nice contrast to the red.
    4) Air box, this is also a delicate finish and I would just use water on it unless you have oil on it in which case you can use the soap but make sure you rinse throughly.
    5) last but certainly not least the exhaust headers, again just wipe them down should clean with ease.
Just wipe down the rest as go along...

I will post more pictures another time but I shined up my gearbox/differential with the dawn as well and it came out great.

Wow I love your rims, what are they? lol
Theres nothing like BBS LM's, they give the 348 a period correct challenge car look. I really love them on the 348 the angular lines really complement each other!

What exhaust do you have those tail pipes look much bigger and nice than my tubi!

That would actually be a more suitable size! If you take a close look at my pictures you will see the rear tire pulling inward away from the rim. This is because my rim is 18"x10.5" while my tire is the absolute minimum size, only 265. Its next on my to do list!

By the way they are Michelin Pilot Sports, and as a tire I have been quite pleased with them. I am still not sure what tire and what size I am going to replace them with, I have heard good things about Khumo Ecsta MX tires, and that they are a lot of bang for the buck. We will see buying tires always ends up being a generally agonizing task...
