What is the furthest you would drive your car? Would you take a long road trip from FL to NY? GA to Cali? OH to LA? What I want to know is are they (348's and 355's) long distance comfort issues and reliable enough to make the journey? I'm curious if any guys/gals out there have put on some serious one day miles. A good GA to NY run is an average 15 hour drive (includes only stopping for gas) and about 900 miles. I recently read in FORZA how two guys drove from FL to CA (via the scenic route-through rain and snow) in a new 599.
When I bought my 348, I drove it 600 miles home to Baltimore. Here's a link: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=137045862&postcount=8 The car did great, including surviving a couple of rain showers. It was fairly comfortable. The highly bolstered narrow seats don't allow you to shift around much, so I wouldn't have wanted to go much more than the 8 hours it took me. Depending on what exhaust you have, you also might want to use earplugs. - Eric
Silicon Valley to LA on Pacific coast highway------Fun LA to Silicon Valley on Interstate 5---------------No Fun
348 Spider New York to Los Angeles, on the Players Run. Very fun and the only problem was a blown tire.
Put 2,500 miles on my F355 in March. (Oklahoma - DFW - Houston and then San Antonio, College Station, etc) I don't really know where I was going, but I had fun. As long as I have enough oil and filters with me, I'll drive 18,000 miles around the country and only because that's when my next major is. The F355 to me is pretty comfortable on long trips, the only complaint I have is sleeping in the car is uncomfortable.
I feel secure in the car's ability to go to the Starbucks on the corner (about 2 miles away). . Actually, I'd drive mine to L.A. with no worries. I have done about 500 miles in a weekend. It's just exhausting more than anything else.
Buy a F355 Dan, your 348 is bad luck! Well I take that back knowing your luck you'd need to do valve guides, manifolds, sticky interior, cats, and anything else that could possibly go wrong with the car within 1,000 miles of owning it
Interesting topic, perhaps an excellent opportunity to get me some help... Can anyone offer me some "words of wisdom" or advice that may help me overcome my infallible fear of driving my car more than 20-25 miles from home? I just cant get past it! The car made a 270 mile non-stop trip to be delivered to me (7 months ago), without a hitch! My mechanic is TOP NOTCH and insists the car is bulletproof, and I never have any problems with it... but i'm just terrified, and I cant explain OR understand why!! I think I need a doctor who's "REAL" in!
Man you said it brother. I drive to Atlanta in mine about once a year. You get there and just want to give it to the parking guy and be done with it.
Did a 500-mile roundtrip last fall. In th suspension's "soft" mode, it's bearable, but the drone of going 80mph in traffic for hours on end really does wear you down.
My feelings as well.... I want to enjoy the miles in my 348 when I drive it, not just chalk up miles that tend to drone on or get routine as they can when on a very long trip.
Steve, you need to get out with me and the guys more. At least if something goes wrong there's peolpe to help, not to mention a few mechanics with us... I don't know how I would feel about driving a lot of miles by my self, say 500. If I'm with some other people it makes me feel better just in case something goes wrong.
Nothing would make me happier than to go out with you and "the guys" more! I would definitely be more confident and comfortable being out with a group... its being out on my own that freaks me. That show today was absolutely fantastic!! I really had a great time... I could SO get used to doing that all summer long! BTW, your wife is just as friendly and wonderful as I expected.... you're one lucky SOB!
I took my 348 on a weekend rally to Key West last November. I was nervous about the reliability only because I have never been stranded and thought maybe it was just time for a breakdown. The car ran great, no problems, and we did about 500 miles on the weekend. It would be fun to go around the country stopping at various Fchatter's houses to do a proper tour in the car I think. It is not tiring to me to drive the car a fairly long distance. We traded in the Ferrari for a smaller Lambo while in the Keys... Drove from Detroit to St. Ignace in my 355 and it was a great trip About 300 miles. Just limited in luggage and no golf clubs
Gas, 50cc, a really great way to get around that crowded island. MRoadster (recently bought a 348) thought he was Mr. Bond... Image Unavailable, Please Login
