    Heyyy...thats one of the rare suvivors with a DeDion-rear axle!!! Very hard to find. OK, 20k-$$ might be a little stiff but 15k-$$ might be reasonable.The QPI in this configuration has the twin-port (plugs) engine and it handles with the DeDion like a real racer.

    Ciao!

    Came across a long-lost sibling. This is an early QP1 - No. 94. Sitting outside in So. Cal. for 20 years. Still fairly complete with little rust/rot, but interior is shot - plus all the usual ravages of time and neglect. I understand its sold or being sold for $2,500. Maybe there is some interest being generated in these after all.

    Application of unlimited funds can overcome many obstacles, but then what? The economics of this project are not promising, in my humble opinion. At best, a donor.

    The QP1 I photographed back in May stuck out in a field is now being offered on eBay with a BIN of $22k! Incredible bit of appreciation without a lick of work! I'm a bit skeptical of the pedigree, too - Walter, do you know anything on this one? Who is the mystery "archivist?"

    Certainly the description is incomplete, inaccurate and (at best) "optimistic" based on my personal experience with the car. This car had not seen the inside of a "barn" or any other shelter in more than 30 years. It was out in the dry So Cal sun baking for many, many years. Lots of rust and decay. I'm impressed it made up on the flat-bed without splitting in two. The steering wheel was crumbling into dust at the slightest touch. I could not get the crank to turn either ...

    Be afraid. BE VERY VERY AFRAID.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965-Maserati-QP1-Ultarare-fully-documented-Barn-Find_W0QQitemZ250313795368QQihZ015QQcategoryZ162315QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Item No. 250313795368

    Here's the description:

    "I found this 1965 Maserati Quattroporte series 1 here in southern California. It literally was in a barn near San Diego since 1979. The photos are right after being found and pulled from the barn. I will provide current photos though i have yet started restoration. I have all scripts and medallions for the car. i was told it was running when parked. It was painted once and the original color is very rare and likely only one ordered in Grigio Fumo,. It needs complete restoration and is as is. The title is in my name and in hand. I have both original california plates and new plates. Even have registration for milano in 1968.

    After a few months of research and help from the Maserati club and head archivist for maserati, i determined the car was special ordered for Italian in Milan. According to the archivist it was a very special color Grigio Fumo with Blue Connoly leather. I planned to restore it, but have decided to restore my XK 150..

    The early Qp1 is one of the rarest and most expensive sedans ever made and made for the richest people in the world including Pavrotti, Agra Khan, Prince Ranier, and very notable aristocrats. There were about 200 of the early single headlight version with a special rear-end.

    According to Ermanno Cozza (head archivist of Maserati) he said this car was very special ordered as follows;

    * V8 4136 cc
    * De Dion suspension
    * Built June 1965
    * Paint color "Grigio Fumo" (Dark Grey) * likely only one ordered this color...doesn't show as offered for QP1 in most data bases
    * Leather Connoly interior (blue)
    * sold to Italian Maria Giovanni Biscaldi wife orf Dr. Broggi ( Possibly sister of famous F1 racer G. Biscaldi)
    * Car was delivered on 6-16-65 in Milan
    * Car Has stickers from Italiano milano membership in 60's
    * Car shipped to california in early 70's (have blue plates from 1973)
    * Car was personal car of owner of Citroen/Maserati dealership in Los Angeles
    * Then sold to gentleman in North san diego in 80's

    Description:

    * Car appears complete
    * Body very straight
    * Been painted once to blue (original Grigio Fumo) dark gray
    * Matching Numbers Engine is original
    * Even original exhaust (very unusual design box under trunk)
    * Original rare steering wheel
    * Condition of engine is unknown... according to person i bought it from... he said it was running when parked 30 years ago
    * The car has been titled its whole life and placed on non- operation in 80's
    * Current title and all fees current
    * It needs full restoration
    * Has tools and jack and bag, books and manual
    * Some new hydraulics parts and bits and pieces
    * Very restorable and beyond rare southern california car for last 35 years

    If you question please ask

    Many local ports to ship car back to Europe

    60 miles from Long Beach international port

    Happy Bidding"

    Beng,
    no, I do not know! Perhaps the "archivist" is from MCI or TMC.

    Then you relate this name: Ermanno Cozza, who is THE man for 1.hand infos about Maseratis. Unfortunately I know nothing about this car!

    Ciao!

    Hi,
    This thread should be moved to or combined with the "Quattroporte Tipo 107" thread. Can anyone do that?

    Here's another photo. As I recall, the plugs were also removed leaving the inside of the engine exposed to the elements for 30+ years, too.

    The asking price on Ebay is too stiff!!! 22,000 $ is too much for a car thats in need of a TOTAL restoration!

    Ciao!
