    Hi all,

I need to get clarification/advise on a few of things...

    1. Will the Brembo F50 brake kit work with the F40's factory 17" rims?
...I read in a previous post from William H that they will.

    2. Does anyone here have experience with the F40 brake upgrades offered by Pocono Sports Cars?
.....I cannot recall the name of the manufacturer, but it's a dual master cylinder set up.

    3. Any other solutions, while staying with the factory 17" wheels?

    TIA, Joe

Hmm. Maybe chris will chime in. I seem to remember the dual master cylinder setup necessary b/c the single setup boiled.
Call Rosso Motorsports in Stanley KS at (913) 681-2220. Talk to Chris Parr, he used to own the car in the pic.

I can tell you that the big brakes need every mm of the 18" wheels and there is no more worthwhile improvement that you can make to your F40 IMO

Attached are pictures of the duel master setup that we designed. it uses all tilton componets that are easily obtained. the mounting bracket was designed by us as well as the custom fitment with the steel braided teflon lines that we had made by Industrial hose. the hoses we had made with the coating tinted in red as seen in the pictures. We have the design for the mounting bracket so we can easily reproduce if you need.

If you are interested, give me a call and I can give you all the part numbers for the purchaced items and can have made the mounting bracket.

What is really nice about the setup is that it can be easily returned to stock as the original componets are not modified.

We also fitted to this car the brembo big brake GT kit with 18" wheels made by Fiske. The bias adjust on the dash in place of one of the unused dash switches so we did not have to modify the dash or drill any holes.

This car was also fitted with Penske 3-way adjustable shocks. this made a huge improvement in the handling of the car on the track.

    Best regards, Jim

Thanks, we recently removed the clutch master resivoir and ran a line from the new billit resivoir direct to the clutch master. we had it blocked off in the picture which was before we went to Sebring and just didn`t have time to complete before the event.

    Thanks and regards,

    Jim

Here are some shots of the Master that Jim did for my car with the Clutch fluid Reservoir integrated. Both the fabrication and performance have exceeded my expectations. I just came back from Sebring and I can tell you that I was braking in half the distance I normally would with the stock setup. I no longer boil out the brake fluid, and the peddle response with the Dual Master is much better. Jim installed a mechanical Bias control that allows me to change the front / rear bias from the cockpit. A prime directive for the fabrication was that the conversion would require no cutting or alteration of stock components, essentially a bolt on replacement. If I ever wanted to return to a stock configuration I could do so. Again I can't speak more highly of Jim's fabrication and design skill (he even gave me a choice of line colors). I'm using Brembo Calipers and Rotors and highly recommend the upgrade. I also had 2 sets of Fikse wheels made (one for street tires the other for slicks) in 18".

I highly recommend Jim (Dr Ferrari) McGee at Pocono Motorsports.

thats the beauty of the penske system. I can set the car height where I want. as long as I maintain enough space so the tires do not contact the bodywork.

Is there anyway to lesson or rid the braking squeal without doing a full brake upgrade such as the ones mentioned above? The stock setup racket is just atrocious.

Try new brake pads with a better compound. Use the Performance friction 01 compound.

Getting some heat into the pads on the first couple of applications also seems to help.

Although this seems to work at first..............the last bit of modulation of the brake pedal before the car finally comes to a dead stop still produces an ear peircing squeal!!

I'm having new Performance Friction pads installed this week as recommended by Jim. Hopefully this cures the noise.

Kuzi: You are correct. If you are running standard pads, they are great for the track, but on the street as these cars are mostly used, the accompanying consistent squealing upon braking is a monumental pain. I did a bit of resarch on this and as Jim suggests, there are alternative pads that will work better. But any of these modifications have their issues (excessive brake dust, quicker wear etc). In the end I have never changed the pads on any of my cars, but I have developed a technique where I brake very late and quite firmly when I come up to the lights. I have gotten this down to the point where I can stop the car safely whilst eliminating almost any squeal at all! Any other F40 owners practicing this technique? I bet there are :)

I agree that's what I have done as well to reduce and eliminate squeal. Late and firm braking really gets the heat up in these pads and keeps them quiet. You definitely can keep them for street driving whilst minimising squeal.

Yes Joe, I've tried this. It does work up to a point. However it "doesn't" work so good when I've got the wifey in the car and I wait until the very last second to brake while she grabs ahold of anything she can bracing for impact ;) lol Then she looks over at me with the evil "eye" and says.........."you want to take the kids in this thing??" NOT! LOL
