I thought there was some "rule" this year about 11 teams or 22 cars at every race? Anyone know what I am referring to? Also what will happen to qualifying? Will Q1 only knock out 4 cars? Thanks.

I guess only 4 out after Q1, yes.

As to the "22 car rule" my understanding is that is between the evil-pygmy and the circuits - As part of his contract with them, he supplies 22 cars for the race. Now, I suspect there are all kinds of "force-majeure" (sp?) clauses that mean it doesn't cost him any $ if there's only 20. But, we can hope......

    Cheers,
    Ian

They could also switch it to 5 out in each of the first two rounds. When the system was originally announced before the 2006 season it was going to be 20 down to 15 down to 10. This was before Super Aguri was created. It was changed to 22, 16, 10 to accommodate them.

Agreed. I'm still not 100% convinced that Aguri won't appear again before the season's over though.

Once they withdraw, I don't think they are allowed back in.

Could be true, but if it puts money in Bernie's pocket I bet he would allow it.

It would most likely take money out of his pocket. Where do you think Aguri's share of the TV revenues will be going?

Don't you worry your pretty little head. I'm sure Bernie will has a backup team he's kept in his garage all these years in case of such an eventuality. Team Bernie will make up the numbers this race.

Another company or group could also buy the team and its facilities, which is what Super Aguri are trying to do right now. Where's Dave Richards when you need him?

i know the teams are required to pay 48 mil US pre season to ensure that they participate in all races. the 48 mil will be given back at the end of the season, should they participate in all. i dunno about the Aguri situation now tho.

also, the rule states that not less than 20 cars must participate in each race. long time ago, i think Ferrari ran 4 cars, just to round it up to 20 cars at the start.

They are required to pay 48 million US in order to start a new team. This money is then returned in monthly installments over the next 4 years as long as the team attends all races. Basically it ensures that the new startup has a budget (albeit very small) for its first 4 years before they even startout.

I'm no Bernie fan, but TV revenues are shared on fixed percentages to the teams (47%) and Bernie (53%), so each of the 10 teams will share equally Aguri's share. No extra Euros to Bernie on this one.

A tail-ender team that hasn't construction facilities and also relied on Honda's generosity for so long is not a serious business proposition, is it?

Super Aguri always looked at a stunt organised around 'driver' Sato, whose sacking from the Honda team was so much lamented by his fan club in Japan.

Such was the public outcry in Japan, that Aguri saw the opportunity to exploit it, by 'cobbling' together a team around him. Honda was punished for its 'treachery' by being made to supply engines at low cost, whilst 3-year old ex-Arrow chassis were dusted off and taken out of the mothballs for the exercise.

Ex-Ferrari Daniel Audetto was recruited to smooth up things with the FIA and other F1 teams.
The Aguri team was out of its depths from day one and never performed correctly.

Now, the chicken have come home to roost, and Aguri is found to have run for 2 seasons mostly on Honda's goodwill and borrowed money! A shameless financial scandal, the sort F1 could do without.
