348 Rear Alternative

Well, I am done with the conversion. It took about 10 hours. 1.5 hours to cut the rear to fit the lights. 2.5 hours to fabricate the aluminum carriers, 1.0 hours to fit and attach the mesh, .5 hours to paint and mask, and 2.0 hours to chase and convert the wiring for the lights, and 2.0 hours to make adjustable straps on light rears. I REALLY like the outcome. It is true to the 348 cheesegrater/grille carry-around, however, with true Ferrari double rounds like it should have had from the factory. I couldnt be more delighted. AND if you get the 550 lights.....there is no 355 imitation in the conversion!!! Hope this helps someone. I will be doing a new post showing off the whole car in a few minutes as I bought this car as a very rough, shabby example and have spent the last year resurrecting it....and it at significant completion.

Thanks for the kind words.....I will see if I get some time about some side pics. Yeah, it would have been nice for the vertical support to have been an inch and a half over. I could dremel the support out and it would still hold up fine......however, I wanted to make this conversion a fully "return" to stock look if I didnt like it. The only thing that is permanent is the cutting for the lights, however this would easily be covered by the old lights if reinstalled. Having said that.....I dont think I will ever go back to stock. Maybe next year I'll bust out the Dremel.

 

Yes, stock is just bolt on away. Except of course the cutting for the fitting of the 355 lights. But again this will easily be covered up by the 348 lights should I go stock again. Total job cost: $900 lights, $20 aluminum, $30 mesh, = $950.00 and 10 hours of time.

 

OK, so you have my curiosity piqued......to what CF shields do you refer? Yeah, that would be sick. I searched and found a guy named Lars_vet from denmark working on a project, but nothing for sale. Anybody selling these?

 

What I did do is paint the heat shield with 1200 degree paint colored "polished aluminum". What is cool is my exhaust is coated with a polished aluminum coating to match from HPC coatings. SOOOOO......to the untrained eye the silver of the heat shield looks like the exhaust through the mesh. Photos dont show it that well. Looks really "racer".
