My 2003 360 Spider was running fine and still is, but the orange engine light (check engine) came on two days ago and remains lit. The car seems to run fine but a few days ago, there was alot of smoke when I started the car in the morning. Wonder if that is what caused the light to come on. I have no problems starting the car nor the performance of the car. It is such a pain in the ass to take it to the dealer I decided to ask if anyone on this forum might know if this is a common problem or if there is a quick fix, or whether I really need to take it in to the service shop. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

By any chance did you recently get gas? If so, did you tighten your gas cap? This is pretty common and easily fixed.

If it is the gas cap the light won't go off immediately after tightening but should within a tank. Good Luck.

Gus, do you aftermarket exhaust? And how long have you owned the car?

No, I don`t think so. I did tighten the gas cap and the light is still on so I drove it to the nearest gas station and the light is still on. I hope you guys are not joking with me and are making me run around like a monkey. I also shut the electrical system down by turning the knob in the front bonnet. Now I got a different problem. The radio will not work without a code. How do I get the radio working?

    Gus

Maybe its time for me to trade this in. Its that time. I had the car since last August.

NO no..we are not joking, the gas cap is the number issue with check engine lights, yet it give a easy fix when the serivce tech tells you that you need O2's...If you have a aftermarket exhaust that cause the check engine light to come on...

Do you have the radio code in your owner manual? or did the last owner tape it to the inside of your glove box?

Thanks you so very much and thank you Modenafan and everyone else that responded. It did work. I did not expect such a quick response from you guys and you guys saved me a trip to the service department. I did find the code in the owner`s manual. Again, I appreciate the sincererity and the quick response. I am really ignorant when it comes to cars. The only thing I really know is how to buy them and fuel them and that is it. First time in my life that I corrected a problem on a car thanks to you guys. The only reason I took action is because I am in my vacation home in Wisconsin and there is nobody really to contact that I know. Owe you guys a beer (many beers, Hell I will get you guys f$cked up) when you guys are in my neck of the woods. Thanks again.

If the check engine light comes on again in the future, you can go to Advance Auto parts and they will read it for you (at least the standard warnings). I believe Autozone does this as well.

Gus you are lucky, I had a recent service, replaced the gas cap, and have had FOW erase the CEL, and it was on again before I got home. 2002 spider, Novitec exhaust and have run the car for 3 years without a CEL, until now....any ideas..thanks steve

I had an '02 with an engine light that came on after about a year of ownership. The dealer reset it but it continued to come on. Someone from FNA came out and diagnosed it as a fuel pump problem (I think). They fixed the problem under warranty (even though the warranty had expired) and that seemed to correct the problem. I sold the car so I can't check the paperwork, since it went with the car.

When it rain, it pours. I tried to take out my Diablo Roadster for the first time and the car does not make it 100 feet and find out it needs a new clutch slave. Take out the Barchetta but cannot trust it with the weather forecasting rain on and off. Take the Gallardo out and after 100 miles the clutch goes bad. Had it towed to Lamborghini Chicago. Figure I will take the 360 out for the weekend to my Wisconsin home and the damn light comes on. I was contemplating whether to get the thing towed or check out Fchat. Got lucky and do really appreciate your diagnosis. Thanks again.

I use the OBD Fusion software with a generic obd2 dongle communicating via bluetooth. Reads both Ecu banks.
