    buzzm2005,
Good thing you checked. Sorry, didn't check your profile to see what car you had.

While I don't have a mold, it's one I should have. If I could borrow your broken one, I'll use it as a pattern to make a mold & return it & a new part. New part price would be same as I quoted earlier.

You'd be helping make replacements avalable for other Boxer owners.

That could be arranged. I sent Birdman my center fuseblocks so he could fab a set of those.
What sort of turnaround time are we looking at? I don't need 'em tomorrow, but in 4-5 weeks would be good.....

    Sounds like a fit.
I"ve got about a 1 week backlog, so if they got here next week, I could make the mold the following week. With luck I could return it late that week or some time during the week starting Monday 21 Apr. Would make sure it was returned on or before the 24th as I'm traveling for 2 weeks after that.

I"d need your permission to glue it back together, & fill the cracks so I could get a good mold pattern. Altho, looking at the pix, it might be straightforward to just get dimensions off of it & machine a master part. I can't tell for sure till I see it.

The Ricambi price is $170 for the whole part, including the handle and the plastic housing.
My mechanic says that there is nothing special about the assembly and that the existing handle and pin could easily be joined to a separately fabricated housing. So....

I am going to go the Unobtainium route and send Verell the pieces. Verell: Watch for a PM.

Took a really good look at it today. It's warped/twisted. I can get the pieces to fit, but it's got a twist from front to back that I can't get to come out & stay out.

I could machine one, but I think it'd take a couple of days, & this one is deformed enough that I'm not too confident of getting good measurements. I'm trying to locate a good latch I can disassemble & make a mold from. Russ at FerrParts believes he's got one. I was expecting to hear from him today. Will give him a call tomorrow. Good news is if I can get a good part, I can turn a mold around in a couple of days, once I have a mold, I can make 2-3 parts/day.

I'm not digging out of my backlog as fast as I thought I would. Primarily because fed & state tax returns went to top priority & were unbelievably complicated this year due to my forced early retirement last year. Am also in the middle of refinancing my home which also chewed up a cople of days. Anyhow, I'm back to finishing off that run of CIS barb insertion tools I promised people would ship last week(sigh). Should have them out of here Friday AM.

If I can get a good latch housing here by Friday, or Saturday AM, then I've got a chance of getting some out before I leave. If it doesn't get here till next Tuesday or later, it'll have to wait till I get back. Monday's dicey but not impossible.

Here's the GOOD N BAD news:

GOOD: I've located a NOS new latch.

BAD: It's coming from Europe, won't get to the distributor until late next week, & it won't get to me till after I"ve left for 2Wks traveling. It'll be here when I get back tho.

    Updatingly,
    Verell

That's a surprise! It's too bad that our projects are on a collision course. First time it's happened to me!

At this point I've already spent the big $ for a NOS one, have invested in the mold material, & have promised to meet multiple requests for them so I'm going ahead with the project.

As you know, I'm seriously committed to supplying parts like these, & intend to be around for at least 10 - 15 years(knock on wood) ie: as long as I can hobble down stairs to the mfg workshop. :D

When looking for a latch ass'y I came across this: 50036508/L BONNET/BOOT CHROME LEVER ONLY

It was on the ferrari.uk site: www.ferraripart.co.uk

I'd try the major distributors to see if they can supply them.

When my assembly gets here I'll look into running some levers off from billet.

That's the complete latch ass'y, looks like it's a bit the worse for wear tho , an obvious crack, & bent up in front of the pivot point. Still, it's in enormously better condition than the one buzzm2005 loaned me.

As I mentioned earlier, The metal handle alone is available under this p/n: 50036508/L

My latch ass'y shipped today, good chance I'll get to see it before I leave. Wasn't cheap, esp with overseas shipping! Sure wish the $ would strengthen against the European currencies!

So I should be ready to make a mold when I get back from my journeys

3 newly made reproduction latches (vertical) & the original (horiz). I had to label the original as I kept confusing it with one of the new ones!

BTW, you don't have to worry about cleaning these, even lacquer thinner doesn't touch this polyurethane once it's fully cured. Also, they are more heat resistant than the OEM housings, good up to 200+ F. Also should be significantly stronger than the OEM housings as they're 50% fibreglass by volume.
