Maybe you haven't taken a look at the electronic aids that Ferrari has been putting into their cars for years as well.....

GARBAGE!. Is a good way to put it.

Ferrari’s will always have a soul.

True, Ferrari people will laugh at a Corvette.

    Corvettes are:
Driven up and down Main Street at 25mph so the fake rug does not fly off.
Hands @ 12&1pm on the wheel.

A Corvettes soul has died along time ago.

Ferrari, is of course, the ultimate. But, to say that other marques don't have "soul" is naive.
True Ferrari people are fanatical in their enthusiasm for the marque, but respect the competition.

Your statements regarding the current Corvettes are simply ignorant.

Whoa...ok, I really tried to skip over the last several posts and respond to the original poster. But I couldn't. I will say that I just skimmed through A LOT of ignorant posts in this thread. I'm not much of a fan of Corvette styling or quality, but I do appreciate and respect what GM has done. The Z06 is an incredible machine...price or no price. The C6-R has dominated ALMS GT1 and the road-going version isn't that far off. The ZR1 will be that much more amazing. Anyone who claims it's a "poser" car is being extremely ignorant or in denial. With regards to the GT-R, again you have to appreciate the history behind the legend with regards to its racing heritage (I can understand why the US market would not get this). It's to Japan what the M3 is to Germany/Europe. And the M3 has soul! Granted maybe a little less soul with each new model :) But point is you can't compare a Ferrari to a Corvette or GT-R...it's not even in the same league. Each car is amazing in its own right. If you are fortunate in this day and age to have any of them, count your blessings and go make some lemonade!

As for getting a GT-R, I have a $5k deposit at a local dealer in SoCal. My dealer is getting 11 cars first shipment in June and I expect to be one of those 11. At the time, there were still a couple slots available as many ppl had been relucant to cough up $5k up front (mainly due to the "It's a Nissan for crying out loud!" mentality) and Nissan dealers are having all interested parties fill out an official order form with color/options choices, etc that the dealer then submits to Nissan. They wouldn't give me final pricing but said dealership management will decide what that will be based on what the market will bear. They then called me back and said it will probably be $10k over. I've heard other dealers who are getting far less cars and charging double (not all Nissan dealers will be certified to sell/service the GT-R), or not taking any orders and just auctioning them off to the highest bidder. Most dealers you can't even have a salesman help you- you get directed to the highest rank...the owner in some cases. Nissan has no control over price gouging as each dealer is independently owned and they will want to try to maximize their profits, albeit from what I understand Nissan is discouraging dealers from this practice (to no avail I'm sure). As much as I hate paying a $0.01 over sticker, it's supply/demand folks...whether it's a Yugo (no offense to anyone with one), or a F430 Scud, you will pay what the market value is, period. From what I was told the two largest dealers in SoCal will be getting the most cars. One is Univeral City and the other is Cerritos. If you can afford it and want it, get it. That simple. If it's principal that you won't pay a markup, then wait and eventually you may get one at sticker or less. You can always wait for the next model with more power, less weight, more bells and whistles, but you will be waiting the rest of your life with that mentality. And if the V-Spec car does make it stateside, I can't even imagine what dealers will be asking!

Like many others, I do fear that dealer/factory support for this car will be weak as their motivation seems to be HUGE profits rather than building and supporting a new brand in the US. With that, public interest and the cult following will be too discouraged from pricing to rally good support...at least until the hype and smoke dies. I'm hopeful, but time will tell.

    Thanks Simon@evosport,

I would like to know which dealership you used if you could PM me. I need to stay in So Cali as the buyer wants this with no exception. You really gave me some useful tips and information. I agree with the mark up comment as this has applied to many a new model coming out.....when the VW beetle came out the were charging up to 5k over sticker price and the new mustang body style had a waiting list with an over sticker price. If the buyer wants to pay over sticker so be it I just don't want him to get $#%@ over. It sounds like you have found a trustworthy dealer ship with delivey next month! I would love to give them a call and see if they have anymore available :)

And of course, lets not forget some Nordschleife times:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschleife_fastest_lap_times
    (excerpts including the mentioned marques)
    7:25 Nissan GT-R V-Spec
    7:29 Nissan GT-R
    7:40 Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1
    7:47 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
    7:49 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06
    7:55 Ferrari F430 F1
    7:56 Chevrolet Corvette C5 Z06
    7:56 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
    7:59 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z51
    8:13 Ferrari 355 GTB

It's just F-ing quick, and obviously isn't hampered by technology masking driver skill.

the Zonda ran the same time...

    2700 lbs/650 HP/650 lb ft/semi-slicks/dry/pro racing driver

    3900/480/435/street tires/damp/????

    1200 lbs lighter -- 30% less weight
    170+ HP -- 35% more power
    200+ lb ft -- 45% more torque
    much wider power band
    semi-slicks vs street tires
    dry vs damp
    pro driver vs ????
the zonda driver won at 24 hrs of Daytona, so....pretty sure he can handle the car.

I don't care if the GTR is self controlled...
a lb/hp difference of 8.13 vs 4.15, almost HALF...not to mention semi-slicks vs street and damp vs dry...

    HOW.

in any case, it's still an amazing car. i hope they depreciate like a brick...so I can have one :)

Yes, its quick and was piloted by a professional-so no need to mask a lack of skill. However, the time for the ZR1 isn't even close. The numbers I've seen are in the high 7:20s. The V-Spec times were obtained from a prototype that may or may not have been representative of what the production version could produce.
I'd also like to see a proper time for the new 430 Scuderia.

Additionally, when posting generalized wiki "Ring" times, it is always important to understand that weather conditions and driver ability combine to create massive discrepancies-making objective comparisons difficult, at best. When fans of their respective marques begin quoting 'Ring times with the same fervor as a revival preacher, I find it rather amusing.

Don't get me wrong, I think the GTR is a neat piece of engineering that will undoubtedly run hard. Lets just wait until a few real cars hit the road and raceways before drinking the Kool-Aid.

Please stop making weather related excuses for GM. The ZR1 was to have some really impressive times on the ring and the time that was posted was a huge disapointment.
