Reading has its own pleasure, but surely you agree that reading about an adventure versus actually experiencing it are entirely different?

Fair point, Pat, it was not clearly directed at you. I merely raised the question(s), didn't really direct them at anyone in particular though I can see how it would look like it was a direct response to Hutch's post. Thing is, this is one of the things you are beating NNO up over, is it not? If so, these questions apply to you, and to anyone else who has an issue with NNO's behavior. The bigger point is, NNO asked a simple question about backpacking in Europe, laying out why he thinks now could be a good or appropriate time to do so. Very, very cheap of people to pile on and dredge up all this other nonsense about personal debts and car crashes and so on. It's schoolyard bully behavior.
